Commuting - Anyone put stickers on their bike?

I'm thinking about putting a bunch of stickers onto my commuter bike as a sort of anti-theft measure, and also to kind of give it that indie touch. I'm just wondering if there's anything I should avoid - how hard is it to peel stickers off the frame, for example? I hate it when you're left with that white sticky residue when you try and peel off a stubborn sticker and only get about half of it. But I'm curious as to what you guys do.

I don't have any stickers on my bike (I put patches on my bag instead). I did take all the stock stickers off my Raliegh, and I didn't have a problem. I used a hair dryer to soften the adhesive, and pull slowly at a very sharp angle. A little adhesive was left, and I just used the sticker I removed to get it off.

I'd keep to vinyl stickers (bumper sticker material) and not paper stickers. If you're going to be leaving the bike in the sun, make sure the stickers will be color safe; red seems to fade badly. If you're looking for some commuter themed stickers, check out 1lesscar.com

I have a sticker from the place I got my bike
"Love, peace, and bicycle grease"
and also "Zero gallons per mile."
My favorite sticker on my steed is "Please don't steal my bike...thanks!"

Removing stickers shouldn't be too hard with the hairdrier trick mentioned before. A little Dis-solve-it on a rag should remove any incorrigible adhesive.

I remove ALL corprate lables from my bikes (some guy told me "taking the Seven stickers off my road bike was like prying a Ferrari emblem off a Ferrari) then I add one sticker; My name. I figure once I pay for them; they're mine so why would I have any other name on them. Plus they look so much better.

Dumb question maybe: where/how do you get stickers? When I got my Litespeed frame, I got rid of all the decals, left just the headtube badge, looked around for (subtle, stylish) personalized lettering stickers, but couldn't find anything but more corporate logo's and teenage skateboarder stuff.

Don't put a sticker that says "This bike is a pipebomb", which I hear is the name of the band.

My Jamis came with a "Cars Suck" sticker on the downtube...it's still there...

I nerded my gal up real good with a couple rolls of reflective tape.

I just did. Not that I normally would. About half a year ago, my bike fell on an electrical guide wire. Dented in the top tube. Looks awful. But, shops tell me the tube is intact. Could not stand the looks of the indentation. PUt a sticker over it.

Best one I have seen is "my nuts are titanium" on a buddy's Independent Fabrications mtn bike.... He called it Ginger.... (was also on the bike, under the clear coat.... joys of a custom bike)

My beater has a couple of stickers from Microcosm Publishing on it, but I wussed out and put a layer of electrical tape between the frame and the stickers in case I change my mind about them someday.
