Hi everibody, usually I use a trek 5200 (50) for riding but I'm looking for something special for race..
So I bought an Equinox 7 (52 cm) and I'm intentioned to build up the bike as follows:
- ultegra group with sti levers, compact crankset (11-25)
- vision mini-clip on areo bar
- spinergy stealth pbo or mavic ksirium elite
- traditional road bar (not bull horn)
The bike that I have in mind must be stiff and fast on flat terrain but capable to climb (up to 10%) and resist to side wind.... (I'm preparing an Ironman race on hilly roads like Canarian Island)
do I've made many mistakes???

Well unless I am wrong, the equinox is a TT/Tri geometry bike. I am not sure how putting drops on it will help. I would go with a standard base bar(bull horns) and aero bar setup. I think that due to the extreeme nature of the geometry, using the drops will be a little difficult..

Really though, go for it dude. If it works it works. I just hammer on the bike, so I have true aero crap.

I wouldn't personally put the mini's on there. I would do a full bar like the Profile Design Split Second and mount them to a set of drop bars. That way, you can still be aero and use the bars for climbing if you need them.

Well I see what you mean, but due to a fantasious law of the italian triathlon federation I can't use bull horn on sprint and olimpic race (that are the most diffused) so in that case I would only use the bike for half and ironaman distances. I've reflected on it and I choose a frame wich has the same geometric dimension (top tube etc..) of my 5200 but with a stepper seatpost angle so I'll be able to use a road bar wich can warranty a better control on hills.......will it works?

Do you ride in the drops up a hill? The gain of a traditional road bar(the drops) for going up a hill is none. The only time you would really need the drops is to get a better aero position and you have already got that with the tt bars. Going with sti shifters over bar ends will make climbing easier though as you wont have to change hand position and reach for the shifter.
