Commuting - Helmet Hair

I forgot my frickin' comb. Humid morning, fairly warm (mid 60's).

I don't shower at work--just wash up. Look pretty normal most of the time--but with my helmet hair today, I look like an ass! :eek:

That's why I cut my hair to about 1/2 inch. That, and a $15 Wahl clipper covers my haircut expenses for the next 30 years. Haircare becomes "pea-sized drop of shampoo (or rub soap on head), rub, rinse, towel off, done." Looks pretty good too.

when I got in to work this morning I was thinking just the opposite. My commute is short, so I just untuck my pant leg from my sock and take off my helmet. I'm getting a little thin up top, (perfectly natural I'm a 31 year old male) so without a helmet my hair will stick straight up.

There are advantages of being bold ! Beside that, I clip the remaining air.

I choose another way to avoid the problem of helmet hair. Never had it, never will.

odd. How can one get this tan?
I wear a helmet, use sunscreen, and shave my head. Plus, I spend somewhere around 10+ hrs a week riding in daylight. No vent tan.

Pony tail works for me too, but I get red marks where my helmet sits on my forhead. I think I need new pads.

+1 I keep my hair on the short side and do the same with a bit of gel, works great.

I don't get it. What's the problem exactly?

I'm going for the supershort cut this weekend. My wife will have a blast shearing me down with the Wahl clippers. Thinking about #2 or #3 attachment at longest. Only problem is it reveals all of my scalp scars. Oh well, scars are cool.

#2 myself, and yes it shows the scar, make sure the person doing the cutting knows about the scars or the blade will bang them and it hurts.

My wife gives me a hard time about doing this. She says it makes me look dumb when she does it; something about not knowing where to make the edge. So I spend 13 bucks every month to get it cut the same way. I can't see the difference between when they do it and when she does it. Barbers are the biggest scam.

Once summer is here, I cut it down to the metal of the blade every week or two myself. easy, no fuss and no muss. Just apply a drop or two of Castile soap and hose off in the garden or the bathroom. I smell minty clean!!! I'd cut it with a razor razor but with my 3-d scars that would probably not work out well.

I have rather curly, poofy, thick hair, and I keep it cut reasonably short. My Giro Encinal always leaves depressed grooved running from forehead to the back, making it look like I have oversized cornrows or something. I just go with it; it looks neat.

Now, all I use my comb for is occasionally going into the restroom at work, pulling it out, bringing up toward my head, stopping, and doing the Fonzie, "Aaaaayy." It's good for a laugh.

Try getting a cheap bandana and using that as a headband.

I usually ride without a shirt...more comfy for me. I left my hair in a ponytail for a while and my back tanned up really nice...except for where the ponytail sat. I had a skunk stripe! Now I ride with my hair in a bun (set low, so the helmet fits right).

I choose another way to avoid the problem of helmet hair. Never had it, never will.

+1, I don't wear a helmet, I don't want the recovery time from a car hitting me.

A particularly bad case of helmet hair was immortalised in my university grad photo. That will be one to hide from the kids.

I generally just clip on a #4 guard and buzz it down myself. Usually I get the wife to trim down the fuzz on the back, but if she's not around I'll do it myself using the thumb/forefinger grip as a guide.

I gave up on barbers when haircuts hit about $12 around here. They're up to $15 now. But I know a few women who pay $150 every couple of months at the stylist. My jaw hit the floor when I heard that; I can't even imagine spending that much a YEAR on my hair. My wife probably spends what I would consider a crazy amount getting her hair done too, but I've decided I just don't want to know about it; we're all better off that way.

I don't know about that, I've got a local old coot who's been cutting mine short now for going on 3-4 years. Five bucks and five minutes, I'm good to go, sleek and aerodynamic (as a charging rhino could possibly be).

Then again, this is a real barber, you know, the kind that cracks politically-incorrect jokes. Doesn't have posters of pretty boys on the wall advertizing the latest gel.

Five bucks a month is worth it seeing as it keeps the wife from wielding a sharp instrument near my neck.

I have rather long hair and the hair not normally covered by my helmet is lighter/sun bleached. It's not too noticable, but kinda funny.

Go messy. I gave up the "part down the side" corporate look a couple of years ago. Just towel it off and walk away. The helmet does the rest. Of course, on days when I don't commute or ride before going somewhere, I have to walk around the house in my helmet for a little while! The wife really likes that.

I'm female and have medium length hair (between my chin and my shoulders). I just get it a little damp and blow-dry it with the hand dryers. No more helmet hair! Looks just like new!
