Commuting - How to add fenders with caliper brakes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hey everyone, I've been thinking about getting fenders for my bike but I have the old style calipers (like these http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/brakes.html#calipers) on the back that don't allow for very much space to mount the fenders.. Has anyone had any experience with this and if so what are my options.. Thanks, Eric

I use the Planet Bike freddy fenders that are 35mm wide, and they fit under the brake just fine =]

I carved out the edges of the fender where it passed under the brake to get clearance. It was a pretty wide fender, if you are running narrower tires, choose a narrower fender and you shouldn't have to carve anything.

I use the Planet Bike SpeedEZ fenders. They are designed to fit behind the calipers, but I find they give ample protection.

I also put Freddy's on my Centurion (not shown in pic), but I can't use anything bigger than a 700x23c tire, or they rub like crazy.

You could try these

They sell them in kits if there is really no room to fit the fender. You have to cut the fender where they meet the bridge and fork but it really does work.

If you have a road bike you may have to use SKS RaceBlades. That's what I had to use on my old commuter (Raleigh R600 road bike).

I use the Shimano long drops with ESGE (35mm)chromoplastic fenders and 32mm touring tyres. No cutting or shaping was needed.
The clearance depends on your frame clearance as well as the caliper style.
