Foo - WTF runs in the background of E-Bay pages !?!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

.......and slows the computer down more and more until
I close out of IE and re-open ??
I have 3 virus protectors that I run regularly. E-Bay is the only site
this happens on.

^^^ I run a Zone Alarm constantly
and every 2 days a full Ad Aware deep scan and a
virus program called True Sword. They do not run until I engage them.
I only go to search I have set up for 'Fixed gear, track bike'
I am running the YUGO of MS....2000 ME   That might have something to do with it, too..
I thought e-bay servers would be MONSTER and not this slow but I suppose
I was wrong as happens occasionally :D

I was wrong as happens occasionally :Dzone alarm is a firewall, not a virus protection, your virus protector should have an option where it's always on but not scanning, and when a virus enters or trys to enter your computer it blocks it and gives you a notice. well atleast Kaspersky does this to me. i've read windows ME runs very slow, i recommend upgrading to Xp proffessional or 2000 professional(i have it, works great, just my pc sucks stuff:rolleyes: )

Mechbgon helped with some stuff before and I determined I would
do XP. I got an 'upgrade' version and it said it could not detect a
previous version of windows so it would not load onto my rig !!!! :roflmao:
Even Microsoft has stopped calling ME thiers ?? :roflmao:

If I do the full upgrade I wont be able to afford the stuff Im trolling E-Bay for :D

Thanks for help !!!!

Thanks for help !!!! :beer:To start with, after-the-fact virus scanning is a risk these days. If a rootkit gets in the door... yikes. I'd recommend something with real-time protection and leave it running all the time. Kaspersky is fantastic, that's what I use at home and what I buy for my parents & sisters.

I'm sorry to hear that the Windows upgrade didn't work out; can you clarify which version of Windows you have, because you said 2000 ME and those are two different versions. Windows2000 is actually quite good, WindowsME is a dog. To find out which you have, Start > Run > winver and click OK.

Gosh - jeez i would have expected Linux Author to come barging in denouncing the evil empires of Microsoft, Ebay and PayPal. Sheesh.

Why doesn't anybody know they can just stick their old cd in and that counts as an upgrade. Has worked for literally every version of windows that I've upgraded.

On that topic, here is the Microsoft WinXP upgrade matrix (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/upgrading/matrix.mspx) showing which upgrades work. Windows 3.1 users are outta luck :D

To be strictly compliant with the licensing terms, one doesn't just need the CD from a prior version, one needs a valid license for the prior version. Which the OP appears to have. I would 299% recommend doing a fresh installation of WinXP rather than attempting to do an in-place upgrade; the update-version CD can do a fresh installation, but will simply ask to see the Win2000 CD or WinME CD along the way.*

Setting up WindowsXP without getting worms: mech's suggested approach (http://www.mechbgon.com/build/security1.html)

*note that it needs to be a real Windows CD and not, like, an HP/EMachines/Dell/Gateway "Restoration CD"
