Commuting - cygolite dual cross

I have been a big fan of cygolite headlights for a while now... my favorite so far was the single led light with the water bottle battery... (someone took the headlight off my bike so it must be replaced) this light seems to be the way to go now... long run time, short charge time, smart battery charger, produces equivilent of 20 hallogen watts. The idea of not having to use the water bottle type battery is fantastic! apparently the battery is very small and can simply be strapped to the top tube.

Is there anyone out there using this light? Are there any issues with it that I should be aware of before making the purchase???

That light seems awesome to me, if the light comparison picture wasn't doctored in some way. I've seen a 3 watt LED that barely kept up with a 6 watt halogen (granted it had longer battery life). So I'm guessing this is probably equal to about 15 watts of halogen light.
Still, for the same amount of light, the LED would have about twice the battery life. Between my 2 lights, I would keep my L&M HID, but gladly exchange my L&M dual for this one for battery life alone.

I am surprised that nobody seems to have used this light set yet... Please speak up even if you have at least seen it at the store! (my lbs does not carry it. I asked them to get it in a few months ago, but they still don't have it)

well, after a good bit of research, this appears to be a good light... i will order it tommorow, and post the opinion once i get it.

I just saw this thread now. I bought this light and use it mainly for MTBing accompanied with a head light. It works well. I've had it only for two weeks but I've used it enough to get a good feel for it. I could use a bit more distance on the downhills, but for commuting, this light should be fine. It has 4 intensity settings, so you can have it super bright or regular. I've used it for 2 hours on highest intensity and it didn't run out, so I'm guessing the advertised run time of 4-9 hours (depending on brightness) is true. It holds up perfectly in the rain. The price is reasonable too.

Thank you for your comments chad... I feel much better about the purchase after reading your post. One of my biggest concerns about the light is it's rain performance... The only complaint I have had about cygolite in the past is that they are NOT weather proof... water gets in, they fog up, and eventually die because of it. This is the first light system that cygolite claims to be "weather proof"

I bought 1 about a month ago and have just now been able to use it. I never received a battery charger for it, Pricepoints fault not Cygo's. The light itself is great. It has 4 modes for each setting, constant & blinking. You cannot have 1 light blink while the other is constant, they are both constant or both blinking. They supply a small rubber strip that attaches to the battery to help protect your frame. The rubber strip is pretty chinzty and should be twice as large IMO.

The velcro battery strap is 1.5 inches wide and fits through a slot on the battery. It holds really well, I don't expect it to wear out anytime soon. They also give you a small 1/2" velcro strap to help tie your cables but it's better used on the handlebar clamp. The clamp is a flip-lock lever but "un-flips" quite easily. I can really tighten down on the clamp to get it more secure but it's so much that I'm afraid of busting it. Just back off a little & use the small strap around the clamp as stated, it fits perfectly.

The connection for the battery into the light unit itself is really snug, it's not going to fall out on you on your ride. I have not used this light in the rain yet so I can't attest to its durability in bad weather. Aside from adjusting your headlight up & down, it has some lateral adjustment as well to help you get the lights centered just right, a nice touch. Overall I'm really pleased with this light & you should be as well. As a side note, Cygo does not have spare parts for the Dual Cross on its website yet. If you need a replacement part they will work with you to help get you the correct part. Enjoy your new light, it's great! :D

thanks for the reply david... it should arrive tommorow... now i just have to keep my fingers crossed and pray that it does not arrive when my wife is here by herself... if that happens, I may never get to see it, let alone play with it!!!!!!!!!!
