Road Cycling - Centaur "full" build kit $942!!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I was just tinkering around with the kit builder at www.gvhbikes.com and came up with this:
If you keep the major components Centaur (FD, RD, Brakes, CT Crank), downspec the BB, chain, and cogset (Veloce, AC-H), opt for the cheapest bar, stem (Deda Piega, Logo) seat & seatpost (Am Classic, SA Trans Am) ($736 total) and go with Veloce hubs and Velocity Deep V rims ($206 total), the price is $942.
That's a helluva deal on a very respectable parts spec. Just thought I'd share...
:)
If there is one thing I wouldn't downspec...its the BB.

Yes but he is talking build kit not group. So add bars, stem, saddle, seat post, wheel build, rim cost, etc...it is a pretty good deal.

Have you had a problem? I have been using the inexpensive Campy AC-H bottom bracket for about three years with no problem.

I'm no expert, but my impression was that higher end bb's focuesed more on weight savings.
Anyway, you can select whatever you want, I'm just surprised you can get into a full campy build with wheels, bars, etc. for this price.
Add a cheap eBay frame (new or used) and you've got a Campy bike for about $1200, maybe a little less with Veloce!

I happened to be able to get my softride solo for about $1100, full campy Veloce (brand new), with Chorus hubs (new, but previous year's model). So its def. possible to get a good Campy outfit on a bike for a reasonable price. I'd probably give up the hubs and upgrade a couple other components in their place if I had the choice, but all in all, the bike rides great, especially for a mere $1100.

I have the AC-H on one bike and the new black Centaur light version on the other. The Centaur is worth the few extra dollars. Very, very smooth. Comparable with a Chorus for less money. A lot lighter than the AC-H to. I will upgrade once they make it in a triple version.

Ditto on the new Centaur bracket. Worth it.

I see that he is talking about a Kit. Just do the math. Add the cheap bar/stem/seat/post too the full group. Same money....

Yup, but you also get high quality handbuilt wheels and a worry free, duty free shipping arrangement and an unconditional return policy within the US.
I just bought bars from www.probikekit.com, but I did so with the understanding that I wouldn't be returning them.
My point is that, with one stop shopping you can get a pretty darn good deal on a full Campy build kit. Could you match it somewhere else part by part? Possibly.
Can you beat it? Not likely...
