Hey all,

I recently got a set of roto-toms for free from my cousin. They are in OK shape, they are functional, they sound alright, but they are pretty rusted in some parts and the paint finish is chipping in many places. So I had this idea to have a fun little project to refurb these toms.

Here is a picture of the stand and all the parts laid out on my treadmill:

I talked to a known member Mr. Cow...(phantomcow) and I got some recommendations and what I decided was that I am going to sand down all the coated metal parts, polish them and then clear coat them. I'm also going to do a little work on the rust and when I'm done these things are going to rule!!

I mean I could go and by a lot of the new parts but whats the fun in that! :D

Thanks!

hi565,

Suggestion.

See if you can find a local monument company, garage, auto body repair shop, that has a sandblasting or glass bead machine. Tell them how small the head rings are and ask them if you can sandbalst them for a few bucks. Then spray them with an exopy paint or a heavy duty enamel afterwards. IF you can do it this way for just a a few extra bucks...they will literally look like brand new! Idoubt they'd charge you more than $15 or $20 to do something that size. Depending on where you live...they might even let you do them yourself, if it's a self contained machine with gloves. Just a thought. Good luck with this.
