I'm looking for ANY information on a recently purchased [salvaged from thriftshop] bike. It has the following details, which I believe are original:
Badge: Racer - Lingson - Made in England
Decals: (painted over, but visible) the words "RACER" on the downtube & seattube.
Serial Number: 76288 OL - found the leftside of seatpost mount.
Rims: Dunlop 26"x1-3/8"
Hub: Sturmey-Archer 3-Speed AW 60 9 (Sept. 1960?) with original trigger.
Handlebar grips are bullet shaped.
Original Color may have been a metallic red or burgundy.
I believe this to be a rebranded Raleigh Sports 3-speed. The rear dropouts are identical to that of a genuine Raleigh. Does anybody know anything about the brand Lingson?
Curious after-market parts and repairs:
Pedals are Schwinn with blocks that move or spin.
The main mount of the rear mudguard reads By Parsons, Worchestor, Mass.
Brakes are not Raleigh, they have anchor bolts at the end of the cables. One has WEINMAN stamped into it. The other is unknown.
The Saddle has springs, it's made of "tan" vinyl (or some other synthetic). Terrible shape, but still comfy!
Rear tire is new (cheap) the front are Schwinn Spitfires (26x1-3/8.)
---
I would like to update or fix it up to be a reliable daily rider.
Any suggestions for the following? (or reasons not to):
Replacing the saddle (Brooks B66?) & brakes.
Tires eventually (so they'll match).
Maybe returning the frame to it's original, or an original color.
The cranks & chainwheel are slightly bent (not major) but maybe go with something cotterless.
Rebuilding or replacing the mudguards, hardware is seriously rusted.
Thanks ahead of time! (links to pictures follow)
