[Live in Brooklyn - commute to LIC 3-4 days a week]

I know the only way over the Hudson River by bike is the GWB.
While I have ridden over the GWB before, I have always turned North.
I am meeting some friends in Hoboken tomorrow evening and am planning to ride over.

Can anyone advise a bike-friendly route from the GWB to Monroe St in Hoboken?
I am somewhat familiar with River Road, but beyond that I am unsure.
I can see what Google recommends for a route but am unsure how accessible it is for a bike.

Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

How about skipping the GWB and go down the Henry Hudson Greenway next to West Side Highway. You can hop onto the ferry (38th St?) to the northside of Hoboken or catch the PATH in the West Village. The ferry can be expensive $5+ each way, but is quite scenic. PATH is cheaper but hot and bikes are restricted during rush hour. HTH

FWIW you can ride by bike from the GWB into Hoboken via Fort Lee, West New York, Jersey City and Weekhawken. It's kinda PITA, especially when you are trying to do River Road in Weehawken and if you've never done this before. If you ride down the West side of Manhattan until the ferry or PATH, at least you won't get lost...

I agree that the PATH sounds like a better option, especially if you don't want to meet your friends sweating like a pig. The ride to Hoboken, just from the upper west side, is 14 miles. But it's not hairy, and there's a shoulder most of the way. Where it gets tricky is just north of Hoboken--you have to stay left when you come to a fork; ride past the hotels; then take your FIRST LEFT before leaving the hotel area, past a parking garage. It takes you under an overpass, and then you make a sharp left. You'll be on that road that's 2 blocks west of Washington, can't remember the name.

The PATH sounds a lot better from LIC, as long as you're not going the rush hour direction. Some conductors/cops might hassle you during rush hour but they are avoidable. The 34th st. PATH station and the Hoboken one have elevators and handicapped entrances. You can use your metrocard.

Good luck!

PS I wouldn't come back via River Road without good lights.

Yeah I was going to say ferry or PATH. To go all the way north to the GWB only to go back south through some hairy roads in NJ does not sound like the best route, especially at night.

From the bridge south to Hoboken is not a bad route. I do it every morning. Take River Road South which turns into Port Imperial Blvd. take that all the way to the end, and make a left onto Harbor Blvd. Follow that and make the next left you can. That little street will put you under an overpass, go under and left rigth after (don't go on the dirt road) that is Park Ave. make a right in 14th St.. and a left onto Willow ave. Find whatever cross street you are going to, and make a right to find Monroe.

We live in Ditmas Park so my commute starts with P.P. half-loop up to G.A.P.
From where do you start?

We have a newborn at home so my commute timing is somewhat flexible.
What times do you do your commuting?

From where do you begin your trip home?
My office is on 22nd ST right near the bridge.

LIC is about level with midtown, Hoboken is pretty much level with downtown. Taking the GWB is really going out of your way. Cycling straight accross Manhattan and taking a ferry seems like a much better idea.

I totally agree - the ferry is the way to go!
Thanks to all for your input.

I live in sunset park, sometimes I go down ft.hamilton parkway and enter PP, then out the plaza, down to bedford, straight to the greenpoint bridge, and i'm around 35th and queensblvd. Usually there around 7:45 in the morning, leave for home around 5:45.

It sounds like you head in to work a little earlier than me.
My home-bound trip usually happens about the same time as yours.
Since the weather has held, I am leaving a little early and head into the city.

Let's plan to meet next week for the trip home.
I am able to bike Tuesday and Thursday next week as I have plans the other evenings.

Pick the spot and time and I will meet you there.
