OMG Here is the story.
WILLISTON, Vt. -- Voters in Williston will soon be able to cast their ballots without getting out of the car.
Drive-up voting booths will be set up at the town's fire station with the hopes of making it more convenient for people to show up at the polls.
"Traditionally, in the past, we get very low turnout for that vote. It's the type of thing that people don't want to go over to the school, park, hike through the school and go in for a, you know, five-second ballot," said Town Clerk Deb Beckett.
Drive-through voting will be tested on June 6, when voters will decide on a $1.3 billion bond issue for a new police station.

When I clicked this thread I was hoping it was a joke...
We need yet another reason for people to sit idling all day long for nothing. I just wonder whats next, will everyone just live in a motorhome, and go get drive thru groceries too? Why should people even bother to walk at all?

"Woman Takes Her Corvair for an Eternal Cruise
"From Associated Press
"PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Three decades after Ralph Nader portrayed the Corvair as a casket on wheels in his book "Unsafe at Any Speed," 84-year-old Rose Martin was laid to rest in her beloved 1962 model.
"She prearranged with us, and this was her wish. It was very well known throughout Tiverton that she wanted this," said Robert Ferreira, a director of the Oliveira Funeral Home in Fall River, Mass....

So now instead of standing in line for an hour and a half waiting to vote, they can sit in their cars (running) for an hour and a half waiting to vote. That's just what we need.

You people completely miss the benefits of this, and focus only on your own elitist needs.
The fact that this will get more (lazy) people out to vote is MUCH, MUCH more important than whatever socio-econo-ecological crap is going on. The voting rate is absurd in America, and whatever can be done to increase it, should be done.
People complained about a similar thing in Virginia where the state made it super easy to register to vote when you go to the Department of Motor Vehicles for anything. As I recalll the complaint was that by making it easier for car owners to register, the state was selecting against the car-free. It seems that with drive through voting a similar selection process might operate against the car-free. By preferentially encouraging this segment of the population to participate in voting, the government skews voting for highway bond issues and against bike/ped facility bond issues.

Why do we want lazy people to vote? The fate of the country should not be in their chubby hands.
I work on a mental health unit. During the election, a lot of effort is made to ensure that mentally ill, mentally ********, and addicted patients all exercise their right to vote. I'm not so sure about this....
OTOH, how much worse could it possily get?

Simple- fix. Voting should be like taxes with no extensions to vote. You don't file you pay. You don't vote you pay. Simple but if you want people to vote give them some incentives, like hitting them in the pocket book. I've always said we need a slot in the booth for I vote for none of the above. Voting should take place over a one-week period plenty of time for everyone.

There was a macleans cover story a while ago that was focused on the cars of today and their conveniences. A couple pictures alarmed me. One was of a mcdonalds with drive thru LANES, as in more than one. Like, one isn't enough? The worst one was a picture of a drive thru store. I don't know if it was a farce or real, but it was scary. Can you imagine driving thru, doing your shopping, paying for it, and having it loaded into your vehicle, all without getting out of your car? YIKES:eek:

I have always said that voting should be mandatory for every American citizen, and there should be a spot for "I don't care" or "no vote", but you have to fill out SOMETHING.

Do you seriously want the uninformed to vote?

They do anyway, at least then we'd have the laws of probabilty evening things out a bit.

Actually historically the "get out the vote" efforts aimed at getting the lackadaisical public to the polls has always resulted in a swing to the political "left" after the results come in. Given your geographical location this probably plays into your agenda. If this is what you and other posters who "want everyone to vote" are all about at least have the guts to say so instead of hiding behind claims of some higher purpose of getting everyone to the polls.

That's the way it is here in Australia. Voting is mandatory, and people who don't vote get fined.
It does mean that the elections are more fair (ie. take almost everybody's vote into account), and we don't have any ridiculous campaigns to get people out voting on polling day. Of course, some people donkey vote (leave the form blank, etc.) if that is their choice.
