Foo - Need new car cd player. Suggestions wanted.

The cd player I put in my car less than a month ago quit working today on the way to the shooting range. (Talk about convienience.) Stupidly I threw away the receipt thinking that it would at least last the 90 days it was covered under its warranty. Yes this was rather stupid, especially considering the MP3 player that died on me last year less than a week after I bought it.

I have am pissed off that I wasted 100 dollars on this piece of crap, and I want to know what models of car cd players you guys have had better luck with.

I've had good luck with Clarion and Alpine myself. Good brands, but you do pay a bit more for them.

EDIT: Following stuff, just to cover any snafus...

I hope you are not splicing the factory wires, and are using a kit to use the factory wire harnesses. all connections should either be soldered and heatshrinked, or crimped using a ratchet type crimper if you want to make sure they won't come loose. Inetermittant electrical contacts can really screw up stuff like car stereos.

Also, make sure that the back of the radio is not smacking into part of the car....this can kill it off in time too. That's what the perforated band that comes iwth radios are for, to brace the radio to keep this from happening.

I used an adaptor kit. I certainly didn't splice any factory wires. The thing was that it wouldn't eject the disk that was in it, and we tried everything to get it out, and eventually we just broke it trying to get it out. I figured if it was just going to be the radio and the one disk that was in there, the original radio would be better because at least i could play my vintage metal tapes. Thats why the original radio/tape player is back in there now, as it will be until I get paid.

We have an Eclipse in my wifes car. One of their amps and some nicer speakers as well. It works very well.

Yep Eclipse is pretty awesome...just DO NOT BUY ONE ON EBAY, AND BEWARE OF USED DECKS.

The ESN security those use means that you need the CD that the unit was keyed with when initially installed, or it won't even power up.

ESN is a pain, since you do have to use the "key CD" that you used to activate the security after install every time the radio loses +12v constant power....but it does make these radios practically worthless to thieves so long as you do not keep the key CD in the car.
