Touring - Change of touring plans.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
For my "long" 5 day 4 night tour I will not be using my B.O.B. trailer this year. Instead my gear will be sagged by my wife and dog in our Jeep.
This means a few things will change. Like we can pretty much carry what we want no matter what it is and how much it weighs.
It also means I will take a longer trip then expected. The plan now is to tour along NW Missouri as well as the Loess Hills Scenic By-Way in Iowa. We will go as far south into Missouri as Weston Bend State Park, which is south of St. Joseph and north of Kansas City.
I still don't know if I will begin here in Sioux City and ride south to Missouri or vice versa. The wind will determine that for me up to 2 days before we start.
This does not mean I will be getting rid of the trailer though. I am still going to use it for short 1 and 2 day tours this summer. So my list of things will be reduced greatly.
And I will take a longer self contained tour in the future as well.
Any one live in the area of Missouri I mentioned? Any suggestions about the area?
Guess I better get busy and modify the list of things to carry huh? Not to mention my route. Since it will now all be in and on the Jeep. And my route will partially be in Missouri.
At any rate I do thank you all for your suggestions and welcome any more you have.
I suppose that means you won't need the inflatable doll?

I think you should ask him to return it, pokey.......

How does a change in destination change what you'll be carrying?

Your lack of experience is troubling. You owe your wife so much. This trip may be the straw that breaks the camels back. We may never hear from you again.
Good luck IHMFBM/Lumpyleg/jv/JohnnyV/NC/N_calf/n_nuts/ft90210/what ever the flick you call yourself today/

all the gear will be carried in my jeep. so we can pretty much take what we want, weight is not a concern. ofr example we will take and use the queen size air mattress to sleep on. but its to heavy to take with me on a self contained tour.

Toss in the inflatable doll too. She probably whines when left at home and wifey will be happy too.
Some people to communication are like Teflon to egg.
N_C, I find you to be one in a million, a true prize that BF should carry around on our shoulders.
You aren't from Love Canal are you?
What do you use to pump up the Queens matress?

There is merit to this.
Blasto Pump makes a 95 cpm unit that weighs in at only 42.5 pounds. It has a cool bumper attachment that allows for easy access and tank purging.
E_C, have you revised THE LIST yet?
greg,
the queen size air mattress has a built in battery operated air pump. it inflats the mattress really quick. and to deflate the mattress easier all we have to do is pull the pump out turn it around and re-insert it and it helps deflate the mattress as well, just as fast as inflating it. we bought the mattress at sam's club for about $35.00. it also has a valve that you use by hand to "firm" the mattress up more after inflating it. problem is its pretty heavy for wanting to use on a self contained bike tour. but its very comfortable to sleep on.

Better yet Greg, I have a 5 HP twin cylinder Campbell Housefield mounted on a 20 gallon tank with it's own wheels. It's a good older cast iron cyclinder model, real solid unit, it outputs 110 PSI, can't see trying a tour without it myself.
Not sure of the weight, but I'm sure with a little input from the good forum members here we could rig up a hitch to tandem it with a BOB trailer, so weight shouldn't matter.
