YES! That's right!

Someday next week (Wednesday?) I want to organize a FIXED GEAR/SS GARRISON KEILLOR APPRECIATION NIGHT.

As you may or may not know, the movie "A Prairie Home Companion" comes out today and it's going to be really, really good. The cast is amazing amazing amazing.

Let me know what day works for everyone.

wow, you're really doing it?

so, is this 'appreciation night' going to the movie? reading from the books? ??

perhaps a ride to ravinia to see him from the lawn seats?

my favorite story of his is still the one about the chicken with its head cut off that escapes and runs around town.

I should have been specific:

Yes, we're going to the movie. I'm thinking we should get several drinks in us beforehand, those of us who have flasks should bring them to the theater.

Chimbly, did you hear about the fish that went deaf?

He had to buy a herring-aid.

I love Garrison Keillor. APHC has given me real insight into my inlaws who are Norwegian Lutherans from Northern Iowa. I thought it was just story-telling but as it turns out, they really do consider jello to be a salad and there's no food that can't be made into a hot dish with Campbell's cream of mushroom soup.

you've just described the culture of my people. (my favorite as a kid was the marshmellow jello salad. in retrospect, all i can say is... ew.

Second that. It pisses me off that it's not on the radio here... I miss the "butter as a spice" cooking, and people knowing what the hell Lutefisk is.

I wouldn't feel cheated by life in any way if I didn't know what lutefisk is. And count yourself especially lucky if you never had/was forced to eat it.

He's got such a folksy persona on the radio, but here is my real-life experience with the G-man....

I used to work in Butler Square, the building where Public Radio International (PRI) was officed. I saw Garrison Keillor once in the elevator, going up (he must have been going to the PRI offices on the 9th floor, I suspect). I was running for the elevator carrying a briefcase and some luggage, we made eye contact, then he deliberatly hit the "close" button on the elevator before I got there, and I never saw him again. So much for the "just folks" angle in my opinion.

I won't be there, but I must pledge my allegiance to Garrison Keillor. Seen PHC live 3 times now... I am a PBS/NPR junkie and damned proud of it.

I too am a major NPR junkie. In fact I used to work for an NPR station and did news and stuff. I also grew up on PHC, although I hated it then. Now I love it. But still can't see how that could be made into a viable film. We'll have to see.

i'm going to use this thread to point out what our fine moderators consider "foo".

not too long ago a member of this forum had a birthday, a thread was started, events happened, wrap-up postings were occuring and then poof ... the thread was moved to foo.

perhaps i'm missing the obvious connection between garrison keillor and ss/fgs. or perhaps it's as easy as putting fg/ss in the title. ... i don't think this thread should be moved, just as i don't see why the other was moved ... just making a point so "your" thread doesn't get thrown in the toilet either.

poo on what is foo.

anyway, on with your day.

Somebody photoshop Garrison into a DC Pirates photo or put his head Nat Fab to get this back "on track"

On track - get it?

Car Talk is the greatest radio show ever. They are also voicing two cars in the movie of the same name. I am an NPR nerd.
