Will be my first time riding fixed where it's meant to be ridden. Anyone done the newbie training session at Hellyer on Sat mornings? Is it cool? How early should I arrive to rent a 56? Thanks all!

yes, very cool..really low key..depending on the instructor.
very different groups attend, you never know if you will be next to a stud roadie who has never ridden the track, or a messenger who has ridden fixie in SF for years...
John Simmons is running the class tomorrow. A pretty intense guy about safety, but definately a good instructor.

Yeah that was dope. Kinda broke out in a cold sweat a couple times on the first few laps - got stuck behind a real squirelly woman who kept looking over her shoulder and veering around - but other than that was real cool. Jon is super nice, weather was great - cool sport.

Myself and some other Toronto guys just did newbie day at the Forest City Velodrome. It was one of the best times I've had in my life on a bicycle. We're all chomping at the bit waiting to head back there now. ;)
