Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Single speed cyclocross frame options?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What are my options for off-the-peg (affordable) single speed cyclocross frames? The cross-check is the only one I'm that familiar with. There's the Quickbeam, but I haven't got $900 to spend.
I'm looking for something that I could run a fixed/free rear hub on, so horizontal dropouts are a must. I'm well aware of the White Industries ENO hub and I'd really like a SS specific frame.
I'm open to any bike with track ends and relaxed geometry that will accomodate larger tires.

I was looking for something a little more modern and I'd prefer track dropouts. I am open to this though. What the maximum tire size I'd be able to run on an old touring bike?

I'd appreciate it if you would. I forgot about Kogswell, I'll have to take a look at their site.

Bianchi San Jose. SS, off the peg, in the pista price range. Also the IRO Rob Roy.

Bianchi has a sweet cyclocross frame (I think they have two models with different buildups).

Wow, that's beautiful. You've got some nice bikes. Have you a got a photogallery set up somewhere with all of them?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have no idea how I overlooked the IRO. ha.
I considered the San Jose, but I was hoping to build it up with slightly nicer components. I wouldn't normally care, but it does not come with a fixed hub and I'd have to replace that no matter what. I've already got a wheelset that I wanted to use.

I have 700x38 on my Miyata 610 and there's still a bit of room.

Woot! The search funtion actually helped me for once.
Anyone have other ideas to add to this list of frames that would be functional for building up a cyclocross-esque (non-fixed) single speed? I'm looking at the PhantomCross Uno or salvaging an older frame but I'm open to other ideas too.

Specialized now has a SS Tricross.

Unless you plan on running the same gearing fixed and free, horizontal dropouts will make dealing with your brakes much much easier than track ends.

Good luck with that. Good touring bikes go for big bucks. If you can get them for $5, pick me up a 55 and I'll pay you a handsome finders fee.

There is a popular mail-order house with a SS/FG cross for ~$400. Motobecane Fantom Cross UNO.

Somewhat decent looking ride but you lose maturity points for the spoke cards. Are you twelve?

don't think the Uno was an option when this thread started.
huerro - what do you mean about brakes & dropouts....sounds like the post you were quoting was mixing up track ends & horizontal dropouts. personally, I've never had a bike with track ends and almost every bike I've ever owned had horizontal dropouts. Were you saying rear brakes are a PITA with track ends? Well, maybe I don't even care, 'cause I'm not really anticipating any FG mid-ride gear changes (ie, wheel flips, or cog changes) at this point.

Make nice with a shop and negotiate a deal. Who pays full MSRP for something that expensive?

I have a Felt mountain bike [2007 Q720] and I'd say I'm on pretty good terms with the shop but no matter how good a deal they offered me I personally couldn't justify spending that much more than a PhantomCross Uno for a bike that wasn't really going to be any more functional for me. [FWIW I'm not a cross racer, just looking for a SS winter/light trail bike for fun]
I wonder how Bianchi feels about Felt's color choice?

Where do I get one of those!? I don't see it on Raleigh USA's website.
Vassago Fisticuff. This one here is a prototype. I can't wait to get my hands on one. They say it will come in cabbie yellow and black.

One nice thing about the Bianchi San Jose.
The top tube is slightly flattened on the bottom, and the cable guides are located on the top of the top tube.
Makes shouldering the bike more comfortable.
For the money, I know several satisfied people rolling with On-One Pompino's. Lot's of options too.

I think the Rob Roy is discontinued. It's off their website, and the dealers have no idea what happened.
Raleigh does have a few offerings, so does Bikes Direct. Cross check can be built up as one,
