Well, just had to share -

weather in 60's (F), wife and I had 2 hour ride. This is even better, because at 4am on Saturday morning I was in the emergency room with a rather nasty kidney stone being thrust through parts of my body I can't even mention on this forum. I was awake all Friday night and Sat morning trying to get relief - took morphine, codeine, aspirin, 3 1/2 hour hot baths and nothing helped. AT 4am told my wife - time to go to the ER. Amazingly, while enroute to the ER the stone passed into my bladder, and once I got there, I was fine, except for all the soreness, tiredness and nausea that comes with this condition.

Anyway, slept most of yesterday, and, because of my experience, I REALLY enjoyed a wonderful, pain-free ride today.

It all depends on your perspective :D

Kidney stones. Something we all like to hear about! :) Yeah right! I'm glad it has passed and I'm jealous of you being able to ride and having such balmy weather :D.

Gee, thanks for sharing...

Seriously, kidney stones are the pits. I've had two heart attacks, one of them major, a quintuple bypass, and one moderately sized (yeah, that's what they called it) kidney stone. I'd rather go on the table and let them crack my chest open again than pass another stone!

Make sure you have your doctor check that you didn't get a bladder infection, unless they put you on antibiotics as a matter of routine, anyway.

Ah! The memories! I think that was the only time I was ever reduced to writhing and pounding on the floor. I was so p!ssed when my wife stopped for a red light one block from the emergency care clinic! They took one look at my ashen face, doubled over postion and new instantly --- "kidney stone"!

DnvrFox -- You have my deepest sympathies.

weather in 60's (F)
Yesterday was 42.1ºC/108F just a bit warmer than Denver. Too hot to do anything but watch the Cricket.

CHEERS.

I passed a kidney stone last year, OHH MY GOSH! It was horrible, I must have puked a dozen times that morning, just from the pain! If i had access to a sharp knife, I'm sure i would have just cut "it" off...

I sure hope i don't have to go through that again!

Denver, I'm glad your feeling better :)

You have my condolences. Although in saying that, I'd gladly swap this morning's humidity for all the dry heat in the world.

Well DF, I'm glad you passed that stone.

I know first hand the pain you were in, as I've been pestered with kidney stones all my life. I have had lithotripsy three times plus various stents being placed and removed many times.
Not to mention all the stones I've passed at home.

I guess, aside from the pain, there are far worse maladies so I try not to feel too sorry for myself.

Wish we had some of that nice weather, it's been near -18C/0-F here.
On the other hand, I don't envy those Aussies, 42C/108-F is unbearable.

How I can relate (to the good and bad of your post).

I have had two stones (before the age of 30). I would rather ride into an eternal headwind than have another, but it seems inevitable...

I am up the rode from you, in Greeley, and I rode 100K today with some teammates. We had a guy touch wheels and crash into a ditch. Luckily he was alright after brushing off the dirt and pulling some weeds out of his ear.

Beautiful day for a ride though.

Anybody ever hear the term "Cement Mixer" used for someone who has regular kidney stones?:)

It was dry yesterday, 9% humidity. Too hot to breathe.

Well, talking about stones - this is my fifth one. But, I have not had one for 19 years. I thought it was over, but I think now that the meds I took for the Trigeminal Neuralgia (Tegretol - I just got off them a month ago) precipitated this current episode. At least research on the INET shows a correlation.

The CAT scan showed 3. One in my bladder (already passed), one in my Ureter almost ready to pop into my bladder, and a very tiny one in the other kidney. I have become a factory!!

Actually, it started on Thursday. On my way to work, I had severe spasms while driving. I managed to make it into work, and things settled down enough that I could teach all day. However, I left lesson plans for the next day. I thought that I was having a muscle spasm, didn't even consider a kidney stone - except I told my fellow teachers that, "It felt just like a kidney stone."

So, I went to see the doc on Friday. He said, "You have diagnosed it correctly, you have a torn muscle," prescribed some Flexaril, and sent me home. Never even did a urinalysis. I still did not think I had a kidney stone. Anyway, at 8:00 pm, it kicked in again - super pain. I fought it until 4am, when I went to the ER, and it was the ER doc who looked at me as if I was a little stupid and said, "You have a kidney stone." Duh!!

I will have to tell you that kidney stone passing is comparable to the pain I had from the Trigeminal Neuralgia for a period of months.

dnvr..glad you passed it and it didn't require surgery.. but be warned... they can come back in a few years..
if they can check it(the stone) they can tell if its calcium based.. i think those are the most common. never had one.. hope i don't.. they suggest lots of fluids.. guess beer could be counted as a fluid, hmmmm?:)
altho i am glad you got your ride in pain free,
i am jealous of your weather.. :( here it was -21 and then the freezing ice pellets started.

Don't drink beer (or any alcohol or caffeine) - but liquids are definitely indicated.

I actually have one of the little buggers in a clear plastic jar. The lab reports indicated they were Calcium Carbonate - which is quite rare. Most of the calcium ones are Calcium Sulfate.

And yes, I know they can come back. This is my fifth. I even have another cocked and ready in the other kidney!!

oopsy missed that part of your post sorry..
um, i know they can do a special type of ultra sound when its in the kidney..my ex had them.. after passing the first one... they found the second later and shattered it.. he had to pee into a filter for a week to make sure it was all gone.. gross.
maybe they can do that for you..they shoot you up with some demoral.. then you go home after.

take care and have fun riding........ gotta go work now..walk in the cold.. slip on the ice... boo hoo poor me lol :)
