allowed all weekend, banned morning (i have no idea) and evening (4-7) on weekdays. not too much of a hassle, if a tourist gives you a dirty look, kick him in the balls.

i got hit by a cab on wed night, so no race for moi, but i'll try to make it to the start just to say what's up. i'll be on a red schwinn ten speed. cheers.

i failed my final exam because i kept hanging my bike from the railings with my seat...:(

You can bring your bike on Metro but you can't use the middle door on any car. That means you have to use either of the two end doors of each car. I have done it before and had no problems.

I've read you must attend a (free) class on how to board and get off the subway cars with your bike, and that you are limited to the last car on the train....

A few of the (ridiculous) rules of the DC metro:

Bikes are not allowed on the trains on weekdays between 7am to 10am, then again from 4pm to 7pm.

Bikes are to only be brought into and out of the metro using elevators. Bikes are not allowed on escalators or stairs.

Bikes are not allowed to enter the middle cars- only on either end. Only two bikes per end of the car allowed.

Bikes are allowed on weekends at all times.

Bikes are not allowed on the trains on some major holidays (ie July 4th).

Folding bikes are allowed on trains, but during rush hour prime time on weekdays, must be folded and placed in a bag.

Dumb ****, ain't it?

I regularly break at least 3 of those rules when I do take the train, by the way. ;)

The "no bikes during rush hour" rule is enforced pretty strict. To take a bike into the middle door of a car is really blocking the way for many people.

I can understand rush hour, but they have an aweful long time for rush hour, which I find silly. 7am- 9am would be more sufficient for the mornings, and 4pm- 6pm would be cool for evenings. But they have rush hour so long that people who work couldn't possibly take the train with their bikes when they're travelling to work.
