General Cycling Discussion - Good bike shop(s) in the dallas area, and bike selection for bro in law.

My brother in law just called from Dallas,Tx and wants to get a bike. He wants to know what type of bike to get. He will be riding some on road and light off road trails. I was thinking maybe he should go with a cyclocross type of set up. Alittle of road and offroad in one package? Does anyone have any knowledge of a good shop or shops in the Dallas area, and what do you think about the cyclocross option?

What part of Dallas does he live in? Richardson Bike Mart in Richardson (just north of Dallas) is huge. They seem to have a big selection and are pretty friendly/knowledgeable. I think they also have a store in Garland. I haven't been there but I've heard good things about White Rock Cycles near White Rock Lake in Dallas.

A cyclocross bike would be a good choice if he likes drop bars. A MTB with a rigid fork and skinnier tires would make a good onroad/light offroad bike too. Hard to find a MTB without suspension in a bike shop but they can be ordered.

i know a bunch of the guys that wrench and race for RBM and they be good peoples.

I recently bought a bike from Richardson Bike Mart, and they were fabulous. Plano Cycling and Fitness - I've met a few guys that work for them & their nice, but I've never been in one of their shops.
