Mountain Biking - Girlscout dances at National

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The NORBA National at Sugar Mtn was off the hook. Tha DH course was super steep, nasty and hard. I only got a couple of shots of girlscout. Highrevs and his crew were there. It was a super good time. It was the first time I've gotten to see some of the top pros at race speed on really hard stuff. Wow,they make it look easy! Girlscout was stoked he got 2nd in his first big DH race.
Girlscout on course.....

Thanks you guys. The course was really, really hard but the most fun thing I've ever been on. I had a blast racing. I went to my LBS today and they hooked me up with a new race jersey (freebie) and new skins (half price).I'll do a report on the new tires later on.

was anyone allowed to gap that "stone wall" area in the first pic? or was it only open for certain classes?

could you please list all the classes at an event like this? and how many racers would you say were there for the day? are there like plus 25 and plus 30 age groups?
are these all timed events or do you ever run head to head with others? i have seen photos of multiple riders but i thought is was all timed?
if there are multiple riders what is generally the max allowed at the gate?
what percentage of racers would you say use clipless pedals?
does anyone use a HT?
sorry for all the questions, i am genuinely interested but don't feel like trying to search all the ansers on net.

Saw you do that... I was looking for that Sycamore jersey & the black enduro... SO cool!! Of course, hanging with the XCer's, we all had a HUGE celebration with Nick Waite's 1st ever NORBA Pro podium finish with 5th place.
Just one question about NC - why do they bother to pave RT 194?!?

I don't know why they do a lot of things. Did you see the guy with the drum kit up on the XC course?

Looked like a killer course - -rough and gnarly - the way I like 'em. Good job Girlscout!

I am proud of you too girlscout, however, I am more proud of mountbiker66 for taking the time to get his son involved in something so healthy, positive and wonderful as mountian biking. I know that girlscout has a lot of natural ability, but it would have never been realized if you had not taken the time, effort, and money necessary to get him on good bikes and provide him the chance to ride. On the other hand, it does kind of suck that he drops you heading down the mountian now. Oh well, we knew it was coming. See you both on our club ride this weekend.

Not really, he stopped with the blurry one. I was just noting that you captured movement in your pictures. Thats talent. That first pic could be a wallpaper if it was big enough.

Nooooooo, not for me. I'm just the goofy Dad having fun riding with my son. I'll let him keep racing as long as his school work is good and he has fun with it. He has a problem with being way too competitive.;)
Thanks for the shots Highrevs. Very good stuff. I like the way his eyes look in the second and third ones.
Here's something to think about. apclassic9 drove her son all the wasy from WV to race,I know dminor rides with his son,and I'm sure more folks on here ride with their kids. After coaching Middle School B-ball for 3 years and seeing how cocky, and nasty the kids and parents can be it's a nice change to go to a race and be around kids just having fun.We hung out with a lot of kids from 10 up to 65 and it was just a good time.

Just be nice. You did not have to add the part about 66. You could have just said what nice pics highrev takes and left it at that. Let the other stuff go grasshopper. I no, I no, you are going to get mad, call me a *** to Siu Blue Wind and threaten to give me a butt whippen. It don't have to be like that. Just relax and be nice. We want to like you.

Thats awsome. I'm a 31 year old father of two, and was raised by parents that took me and my brothers all over the place on climbing, hiking, windsurfing, skiing and surf trips while growing up. I am currently passing the joys of those sports along to my own kids. There is something in "alternative" sports that the normal team and organized sports just can't offer. Independance, self confidence, tolerance, appreciation for nature etc etc. I will support both of my children in anythinga nd everything they choose to pursue, but I have a feeling it will be a surf session after school rather than soccer practice.
Props to you '66 on raising him right. :)

I don't even begin to know how to respond to that....pass the custard pie please, I need a slice.
Hay boyeee!!! when did I call you a ***? Realistically, I have no money, and no way of getting to nc, that's why I wouldn't show up. Plus, why would I go across the country to ride with people who I don't even get along with online?

Good point. In fact, for that very reason, I often wonder why you even post in this forum at all. You seldom (if ever) have anything worthwhile to contribute anyway.

Alright, I'll remind her if we ever ride. Of course that rib has been healing for months now!!
