BMX - Hop stands are fun

If you hate bunnyhops or pointless threads, hit the back button and spare yourself now.

Yesterday I was riding at the spot I ride at almost every day, and I got some trash and put in in the road and made some gaps to bunnyhop over, which was kind of fun. Then I realized it kind of sucked because I couldn't adjust the height, so I went home and looked for some stuff to make a hop stand with an adjustable bar. It was easy as hell, just got some small boards and cut them up and nailed them together, then stuck some nails in and a PVC pipe across the two boards that could get knocked down without hurting anything.

It's great practice for timing and stuff, anyone who doesn't have a bunch of wonderful spots to ride every day and hasn't already made one should.

Those are manual barspins, those are way eaiser to do then hop barspins.

I saw something similar at Target the other day, its like an 'X-Factor extreme jump thing' haha, its the same as what you built but with a dumb name, and it only has one arm holding the pole, so if you hit it it moves and spins around, so you dont eat ****. Haha.

As long as there's people willing to pay the money for it... lol

You can barely feel it when you knock it down on this one, actually. A pipe that weighs like 3oz doesn't do much to stop over 175lb of combined rider and bike, and since you're moving forward it doesn't even push down on the nails very hard, just slides off.

I think I'd rather your design. 1 support and a rotating joint would be a hell of a lot easier to break. Not to mention it costs money, i'd rather just build something.

For the beams I used 2 4x4's that are about 3 feet high, for the stands I used two 1' long pieces of 2x6. and for the cross bar I used a 4' long 2" diameter piece of steel pipe that I spray painted orange.

You people put way too much effort into this. Just use a cardboard box or a milkcrate. Christ.

FuzzyRyder, yours is definitely a lot heavier duty than mine. I made mine so it's light to carry and easy to knock over so nothing breaks if it does get knocked over.

I used to use my old recycling bin...a little less forgiving but did the job all the same.

i just hop over stuff, no need for a stand in my opinion...i guess they would be fun though

Haha well, I had some spare time so why not, and I used to use my recycling bin and pallates and whatever else I could find, but this is fairly simple. It only took like 10 minutes to build and I could hold a high jump contest with it! Or not, but now at least I don't have to go looking for high stuff to practice bunnyhops, I just set that thing up. And madman, it's acctually suprizingly light, I can carry it all out with one arm. I assume it's heavyer then yours, but at least the wind wont blow it over.

If you know there might be a problem if you don't make it, all the better reason for you to make it first try.

My highest hop was 6 locked skateboard decks.


Just a tip for everyone, it seems that all of you are crouched straight over your bike when you hop, but you want you but to be WAY back over your back tire, and your arms straight. You're nose should almost be touching your TT if you're realy going big. haha maybe not that extreme.

Yeah, I could use some work on my tucking. Also on how high I get the front wheel before I pull up, once I improve on those hopefully I'll be able to get 3 feet or so. I'll practice and when my friend gets back I'll get a proper picture, but here's a still from the video:

Wow, he could have decapitated himself from a jethop- that would be a first.

His head isn't even remotely close to it. Look how far away the pillar that holds up the lower part is, and how tall it is compared to the cars.

Actually, it's just a strange viewpoint, bad angle. Or, it could actually be a good angle for the photographer because the people who don't really study the picture would think he is bunnyhopping so high that he almost hits his head.

Its all because of the angle the pic was taken at. It messes with your eyes and stuff, i had a pic up on my myspace of me tranfering a box and my on tire was even witht the rail on the other side and people thought i was rail riding the rail.
