Today at soccer practice the worst thing happened. My friend Mark was running in on the goalie and ran into him. He never got off the ground and we just thought he got the wind knocked out of him so coach let him lay on the ground behind the goal. But he never really got up and eventually he began throwing up so one my team mates took him home and then to the doctor. Well turns out his splein had ruptured.:( He went into surgery and is out and doing well...or as well as you can do when you just had major surgery. Just about the whole team was there and we went in and he was soo white. Every now and then he would come too and would start complaining about the pain and then drift off. Very hard to watch. He weighs about 125 and he just looks half-dead but he's a fighter. Anyways he should be out of the hospital in 5 days and back at school in 2 weeks. This has been a looooong day. Oh and as far as bikes go, I almost got hit by a truck...whats new:D . Keep him in your prayers even though he isn't a cyclist he is a "person". Thanks.
We'll be giving your buddy some thought and our prayers. Doesn't matter whether he's a cyclist, he may one day be one! Tell him Hi from a new guy in the forums.

Sounds like your coach isn't very well informed about how to handle injuries. You don't just leave someone laying on the ground when they appear to be hurt.
Has anyone talked about getting a new coach?

I use to be a goalie when I played soccer, and I know that they can get really protective of their nets. I have got kicked in the face and such just at practices before, and taken a few kicks and hits on the ground in games. Hope he gets better.

I've been knocked unconcious while playing wing (the opposing fullback tried to clear the ball over my head, but didn't get all the way under it). I've also dislocated a shoulder playing halfback (weird collision with opposing player), and I've broken fingers playing goalie. Is it any wonder I gave it all up to dedicate time to my bike? Oh, and I didn't mention the numerous sprains, either.
I wish your friend well. That's a mighty scary injury, and worse than anything that ever happened to me.
Hope everything works out for him that he gets better. The support of the team and yourself will help him alot.

Thanks alot guys. He got out of the hospital the other day but it will still be some time before he gets back to school. Everyone goes to see him everyday so that helps alot.:D About the coach not knowing about injuries, he's a really good coach and the only reason he let him stay on the was because both Mark and my coach didn't think it was anything to worry about. Guess you just don't know sometimes. Again thanks for the support.

Shame on that coach!!! I've coached soccer for the last 5 years and would have been on my cell phone for the ambulance. I am glad things are getting better for your friend
