Today I came in on my regular commute to my part time business, which is near the location of my "real" job.

I was finished a little early, so I took a ride abound an area that I have ridden many times when I have time to extend my commute either going to work or home. It's a newly paved road with little traffic and paved shoulders, running right along the river. At any time it's a great ride, but today, with a little extra time I took it a little slower and looked around more. Usually on the way to work I'm working harder, or I'm down on the aerobars.

Today I looked into the trees, which since they are growing on the river bank, the tops are at eye level from the road. On several there are bird's nests I've never seen before. I also saw some of the birds that inhabit the area, finches and so on, which I haven't noticed before.

Near where I turn off to come back to work there is a historic church. Across the road from there is the old rectory building, a large stone structure, that is a heritage site. I've seen the signs many times before, but just never took time to really notice the building. I plan to go in and have a closer look sometime.

The last thing was seeing the local police force out training with their K-9 squad, quite interesting!

It was a beautiful spring day to be out riding, and it paid to slow down a bit to Smell the Roses!

:) :)

Hi aerobat,
I had a similar experience today on the way to work! I'm chugging along and i glance to my right and what do i see but a bald eagle flying along.
It seems that we sometimes become immune to what's around us, until we take that glance to the side and see something beautiful like the eagle and then look a little beyong the eagle and see the inlet and the mountains in the background.
This is what biking gives me, an opportunity to reconnect with the environment and notice those things that you just lose touch with when you're cooped up in a car.
