I found an old joannou in the trash near my house and it was in pretty good condition so I want to convert it to a s/s with a coaster brake. Problem is the the fork is bent (steerer tube). So since it's cheaper to just buy a new fork(25) than just get the old on re-aligned(25-50) thats what I did. So heres the question.
I want to use the orginal head set; how do I get the crown race off the old fork? or can I just buy any crown race to replace it?

Take the old fork off the bike. Flip over, so the legs are pointing up towards you. Carefully tap all around the crown race with a block of wood and a hammer, or if you are daring, a screwdriver or a brass punch or cold chisel. Crown race will come off with a few good, evenly spaced blows.

you can get the old crown race off with a pretty simple tool most bike shops have.
or you can try to lightly tap it off with a flat screwdiver. kinda like a chisel. or maby pry it off.
But you gotta make sure the crown race diameter on the new fork is the same as your old as there are different standards.
I would personally just get a new headset like a shimano 105 for 20 some-odd dollars.
