Read the Bicylcing magazine article with great interest and inspiration. Having done the road biking, a currently transistioned into mountain biking, the Bent seems like a nice alternative and much more fun then the road bike. , I have been trying to find a local bike shop that I can test ride a few bents, but haven't had much luck. Any advice on how to get started would be extremely helpful. I almost had a Cannondale Bent II from Craigslist (seller was close to my house), but contacted the seller a day late.

Do you know what you are looking for?

no I don't. At this stage it will probably be more price driven, though I am not adverse to purchasing something preowned.

I would try searching for nearby recumbent clubs/groups and show up at one of their rides (early) and see if you could try some of their steeds. Trying is the best way to decide. In the late '90's I had a recumbent shop with you in mind. It was called A Bent 4 Rent and I had all the models from all the manufacturers. They were all available for rent by the hour or by the day. Since it closed in '99, no one seems to have picked up that ball and run with it. Good luck and keep searching.
p.s. Keep some "rainy day" $ handy, as there are frequently good deals on used 'bents!
