Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Took my SS coastie and turned it into a fix today then spent the better part of the day riding it around, I hit south Brooklyn, the park, and then into midtown for the Weegee exhibit at ICP (which is well worth checking out), and had a lot of fun. I was slower (especially in traffic) than normal, and used that front brake more than a few times, but how do I do short emergency stops? Does it just take awhile to figure out skipping and skidding?

word, just put the cog on the fixed side of my hub this weekend and did my first commute today. Skidding/skipping is much easier with clips or clipless. Tried w/o this weekend and it's difficult. For e-stops, the front brake is essential especially on a down hill. skidding ain't gonna stop you effectively in those life or death situations.

Clips, plus skipping helps you burn off speed when going real fast.
