I'm rooting for Togo, because they are probably the longest shot, and because I once got lost in the mountains there without realizing that I had accidentally left Ghana.

When does Germany play Italy? Because it will be the Czechs and USians advancing.

I think it was CNN that did a report recently of the influx of racism and skinheads with swastika flags and the like in the stands of soccer games in Germany.
Scary ****.

Germany is not in the group with USA and Italy. The rest of that group is Ghana and Czech Republic. Tomorrow's match will decide a lot, my pick is Italy to win that group and one of the US and Czech Republic to advance in second spot.

And of course, Germany is going to win the World Cup. I would love to see them defeat and knock the US out again, but the draw doesn't see it likely. Possible Germany:England matchup in the Quarterfinal round, though...

no italy... totti just came off of injury and they play too defensively to make it into the later stages. I love them but they are just to good at dissapointing.
no england... I hate them
no germany... balak is just getting off of an injury and they looked pretty weak against costa rica.
no usa... at least not yet, but I will cheer them into what I think will be a semi final defeat
maybe portugal... they have figo and his prodigy (the other) ronaldo... but I missed their game today so I'm still not sure if they're in good form.
My vote for the win is ARGENTINA, they have a young hopeful squad and have looked strongest in the first round of the group stage. or trinidad 'cause that would just be awesome

Brazil will probably win... again... But you can't go for brazil unless you're from brazil because well that's just too easy.

Australia made it in after 34 years!

not a legal one. at least, not for us viewers. they're afraid american employees will take time out from posting inane garbage on internet forums to watch.

There are apparent ways around watching the BBC webcasts outside the UK...go here. (http://www.ghacks.net/2006/06/06/how-to-view-the-football-worldcup-online/#more-542)

And yet they webcasted all the NCAA Basketball Tourny games?
I don't like either, but I have to assume that March Madness is a much bigger draw in the US than World Cup.

haha! I love this thread!
My boss brought a TV into the workplace yesterday because he's a big fan of Mexico. So we got to watch Mexico pummel Iran while we worked.

I don't expect USA to win but I'd like to see them do good just because they haven't got this far often.

indoubitably. and i have no idea as to the real reason they're not webcasting it, but i gotta figure crass commercialism factors in there somewhere.

speaking of which, BUDWEISER is the official beer of the GERMAN world cup. i know this is old news, but it still bothers me.

the germans must be pissed. i read that they don't even consider it to be beer, because it uses rice in the production process. (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13509-2188537,00.html) That, and it tastes like stale rainwater.

i feel like during the australia/japan game, they were just waiting to **** with them. so awesome. i hear usa is getting ripped right now? i don't have cable so i can't watch! :(

i also agree that this thread shouldn't be moved; a lot of what goes on in ss/fg is very specific to the general attitude here, and makes for a much more interesting thread.

On a side note...both of my sons who play travel soccer scored a goal each at a tournament their team took part in this weekend! Woohoo!

Captain Monkey
06-12-06, 03:00 PM
damn...the u.s. got spanked. they are ranked 5th in the world but they haven't really been playing top teams and beating them. on another note, i figured italy would win but ghana gave them a descent run for there money. also, the ref missed a couple of calls in the box that should have counted as penalty kicks for ghana which most likely would have tied the game and made things somewhat better for the u.s. loosing today. oh well...brazil vs croatia tomorrow. should be interesting. peace.

+1 on the trinidad comment...

BUT...you must not have seen argentina play Ivory Coast...they should have lost...I.C. out played them completely, but had a couple defensive slips that Argentina's front line took advantage of
