This is a better poll than the one I created before.

Simple question.

Why?

(You can choose more than one option)

cars, subway, buses, walking, running, are too slow. Though I do enjoy running for fitness.

teadogg does not give me any unless I put in my miles everyday. He says I need to work myself before I work......anyway. and I have a nervous twitch in my legs that just coincidentally is in the motion of pedaling.

i was sick of paying $50 a month for a bus pass. i live 8 miles from my office and at the time i was considering it i had a bonus burning a hole in my pocket and i bought a bike. 2 months later i'm still loving it.

why no all of the above option? Those are ALL reasons I ride

progre-ss
06-12-06, 03:52 PM
If I chose all of the options, does that mean I screwed up the results?

I ride because...
a. it provides some form of basic fitness
b. I'm training to become somewhat of an athlete (I joined an adult soccer league for the summer)
c. Riding during my lunch hour allows me to do errands I don't need my car to do and it lets me do a. and b. and e. and f.
d. well, i used to commute to work by bike. I guess I don't do this one anymore.
e. Riding is fun and leisurely if I'm riding with my kids. Riding in traffic is fun but not leisurely.
f. I'd like to think I'm cool, but those in the cars that pass me probably think I'm an idiot for riding around on a bike in traffic.
g. refer to answers a. thru f.

I had to go with Other falling under basic transportation/fun&leisure/commuting/&Money. Maybe basic transportation suits all those...yeah it does I guess...ah well

[edit]But really I ride a bike to improve my reading comprehesion skills....multiple choice poll!

okay but seriously. i started riding because school is about a mile from my apartment and i was getting tired of justifying driving my car around richmond. i immediately fell in love with my 16 ton schwinn continental, and started looking into riding fixed really fast as i was annoyed by brakes and derailers (sp) and all that nonsense... got my first fg bike (06 fuji track) on december 2nd 2005 and i doubt that a car will ever take its place. ps: i totalled my car last week and don't plan on getting another.

this is too true. Of course I feel that just becoming a stronger cyclist over time is a reward in itself.

i don't ride. i sit around posting on messageboards all day.

in all seriousness though, i just love the feeling of cruising around town on a bike rather than being stuck in a car. i love the reaction that people give you when it's raining and you choose to ride there anyways. hell, i love riding in the rain. i love the waves and hellos from other cyclists. i love sitting in front of coffeeshops and talking about the same 5 things with the same 5 cyclists 5 times a week. i love not having to pay for gas. i love getting a ridiculously dark farmer's tan by april. i could go on for hours.

It's the one and only thing in my life that I can constantly justify as "right". I'm not sure what I really mean by that, yet at the same time it makes perfect sense.

Because I don't have a car, nor do I want to pay for one. I'm not a car hater though, I would buy one if I could afford it.

I have friends with cars, so it's all good.

I'm surprised that none of the messies said "I ride to earn my beer money, ****!" You forgot to add that option.

I voted transportation, fun and fitness (in that order). You might as well add "work" somewhere around fun.
