My rain jacket is hot in warm weather so today I tried one of those cheap plastic ponchos. I used to use a poncho when I delivered papers. It worked well on the ride to work but maybe a belt would keep it from billowing out like a parachute during the fast sections. The rain on my bare fore arms felt refreshing. I suppose an even cheaper option would be to cut some holes in a plastic garbage bag.

When it's warm out, I usually go with Option B: Go ahead and get wet. Like you, I find most rain gear, even the expensive stuff, to be very uncomfortable in warm weather. I'd rather get wet from nice clean rain than from sticky sweat.

If anybody knows of any cool warm-weather rain gear, I'd also like to hear about it.

If you like ponchos get a cycling specfic one like this (http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=10130&memberId=12500226) one from Campmor (http://www.campmor.com) I have used these for years with good results. I bought my first one in England about 20 years ago. Campmor is the only place I have been able to find them in the US. Big garbage bags are cheap but they don't come in yellow:p

Harmony Farm Supply in Graton, California sells a complete rain suit, with hood, for $10.00. For vinyard workers in the winter here. Stiff and cheap.

Thumb loops and leg loops keep the poncho from "billowing" around while you are riding. It does an exellent job of keeping your topside dry. Legs and feet are going to get wet from spray. I used them quite a bit on tour and commuting. I liked the bright color for visibility. The two big advantges to me over a rain suit is the ventilation and it is easy to take on and off. It also packs down very small, think about the size of a 16oz beer:D
