Classic & Vintage - How to sell a vintage mountain bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My dad inherited a vintage Raleigh Mountain Tour Crested Butte mountain bike. It was made in the early or mid-80s. It has extremely low mileage and is in excellent condition.
Where would I sell this kind of bike? I'm not sure I want to put it on Ebay because it is such an unusual item. Does anyone know any mountain bike collectors?

IMHO keep it. The vintage MTB market is not that fruitful, compared to vintage road bikes.

You'll find serious mtb collectors in the vintage, retro, classic forum at mtbr.com.

That is a gorgeous bike, and I'd love to have it. I'll send you a pm, but I probably can't afford what it's worth to you :(

I beg to differ. Look at some of the prices on would get on Ritchey MTBs, Fat Chance, some of the first Specialized Stumpjumpers are fetching some high prices. It all depends on how much one bought the bike in the first place if your talking strictly reselling.
Old school mountain bikes are an interesting breed, not yet fully appreciated by the collectors. Clones of my top-of-the-line Schwinn (see signature), which retailed for $900 in 1988, routinely fetch less than $300 on eBay.
