Some of you know that since I hurt myself on the Cake, I've had a fear of it. Been in the market for a new smaller bike, and pretty much set on either the Santa Cruz Heckler or Moots. I know, different bikes but I can get an SC at retail or a Moots at cost.

Anyway, on my way to somewhere I stopped into my LBS to say hi and told him of my dilemma. He is the one who sold all of my bikes to me, and I've been his customer since the day he opened 13 years ago.

Boy, did I get a lecture! Forty five minutes of how I should just get back on the bike, realize that I'm gonna get hurt, that I WILL get over it, that even the pros crash and get hurt, blah blah....

He gave me tips on how to handle the bike better, and how to avoid what I did to get hurt.

Pretty much he talked me out of selling the bike. Stupid craigslist wouldn't let me post it again anyway.

So I guess I'll just have to get back on it. Nevermind me if you hear a faint wimpering in the distance............:o

3 things:

First of all you are easily persuaded, and easily change your mind.

Second, I just burst into laughter which is ok considering I'm the only at work today.

3rd, you need to come ride with me, before my head explodes.

Siu I feel this way everytime bf wants to ride mountain bikes. I'm always in pain UNTIL last Friday, I had a hard day as everyone knows here and we rode mountain bikes after work. He was so impressed with how much I had improved that he said to me GOD your riding like the SPORT girls. :) Needless to say I was happy. I have fallen off my mountain bike so many times, I have tons of scars on my legs from my mountain bike and road.
All I have to say is this. First find out if your REALLY need a new bike or it its your self-esteem. I know I'm always afraid to get on my mountain bike but I get on and I'm always happy that I did. I also happened to meet some really cool girls in Boulder to ride with. One of them has actually given me a private lesson. In one sitting I LEARNED ALOT!!

So go out there girl!!! It may not be the bike at all but just your perspection. I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND.

SNOWY!!!

Peaceout till next time. Working on my new AVATAR STILL!!! Temp is in place.

Snowy - I feel that mainly it's just fear of getting hurt again. Yesterday after I posted the bike for sale, I took it out for a "last ride". I had the time of my life. The bike feels good when I'm on it, and it handles so well. Just getting hurt by the bar freaks me out every time. I just need to get over it.

EJ - I did a front wheel stand and before going over the bars, managed to get it back down but not before my feet slipped and I hit the bar. That's why I got the 50/50s.

Nofthreer - We WILL ride, we will ride...........and of course I change my mind. It's my right. :p

Ouch - that sounds like a nasty fall, Siu. I got run off the road into a parked car, and it put me off commuting for awhile. It took awhile, but I got my heart back...along with sharper eyes and ears. ;)

My inseam: 30 inches

Standover: 30 inches

50/50s: Sticky platforms

When I'm on the bike, because of the sag, the bike is perfect otherwise. And Boogs, you and me need to team up. I think we'd be a good support for each other!

All I know is that from now on, when I feel any sensation of falling, that bike is getting thrown to the side.

SBW, I landed on my face riding my Haro and I'm never getting rid of that bike until it rusts out from under me. Don't get scared, just remove the front brake and you won't have that endo problem.

Now commence the spanking!

Siu -

If this guy sold you a bike that was too big for and is now making you feel bad/dumb about realizing the mistake and correcting it, you need to find another bike shop. Sounds like he's just trying to save a customer by making YOU feel like the one in the wrong.

Yes, we all fall. Pros crash blah blah. But they are less likely to do so on a bike properly fitted for them. And when they do, they are less likely to get hurt if the bike is the right size so they can throw it out of the way.

Sure you can use skills to handle the bike better, but if it's too big, it's too big!! Sell it, get a bike that's better fitted to you so you can enjoy riding and not have to worry about how you're going to get off the damn thing every time you come to a stop!!

Have you considered clipless shoes?

For the record, Sunday was the first time in a LONG time that I didn't come home with scrapes, bruises and something broken on the bike. I guess I wasn't hitting the trail fast enough.

also, look into a curtlo. you can get a custom rigid from him for like $900... i don't know what a FS would cost.

Morton, you've been breathing too much of that trailer air. I did a front wheel stand on the full suspension bike and landed on the top tube. I hit a car at night with the rigid hardtail and busted my ribs. Two different accidents. I'd rather break more ribs with the Giant than get hurt again by the Cake.
