Fifty Plus (50+) - 50+ers must need more sleep

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

How come nobody posts after 10 o'clock in this forum? Are you all in bed? Isn't anyone a nightowl? What am I supposed to do -- get a life? Or hit the sheets? C'mon, I want fresh, thought provoking, informative, insightful or at least funny posts late at night! Geesh! Is that asking too much? :D

Too-Loose La-Trek may not have been a cyclist in spite of his last name, but man, he had some swinging gal-pal friends!

I like to ride in the AM this time of year, and I mean AM. Up by 4:40, 20 minutes for one cup of coffee, a few carbs, and check the bike, then out the door by 5AM. Leaves me 2 hours to ride and get back and get to my office well before 8 AM. I like to be asleep by 10PM at the latest.
Any later than that and I simply don't ride the next morning.

Noted the time of posting at 7.04 am. I get to work at 7.30 and try to run off a quick reply before the Bell sounds at 8 am. The bell? Time to stop playing and start digging.
Unfortunately- If I am still posting at 2am- it would not make a great deal of sense, and that is only about 8 pm to most of you. Time is now 19.49 and it is raining. Time to go down the shed and start rebuilding the bike for the weekend. Will get back around 20.00, time for a tea, and a bit of pie- check the news and see who's done what on their rides this evening - to prepare an answer for tomorrow morning.
Forget the shed. Thunder storm happening right now so time to strip off and tie the garden down. First rain for a couple of weeks.

OK, so I did 2+ hours this am in the cool. To prove myself an absolute fool, I took my wife to an appointment this pm, took my bike with me, and during her appointment rode another hour in 101F temp.
Smart, right! :(

Qwitcherwining Gary. It's 10 o clock for you and all your West Coast cronies, but some of us live elsewhere. But here in the Central Zone it's the witching hour and on the East Coast it's 1 am. Those poor Europeans have to wake up soon and the Japanese are are still at work.

I'm usually up late. The days of 4-6 hours sleep have entered my life. I wish I could still sleep 8-10, but it just doesn't happen. I sure like that afternoon nap though.

+1, I'm usually up until midnight. D**n job keeps me on edge. Some day things will get better, but right now things are tense. But it does get lonely here after 10:00.

I keep seeing these medical shows and reading that you should get 7-8 hours of sleep each night to be healthy.
For a long time I went on about 5 hours. After I left teaching I can get up to 6-6.5.
When I wake up, I am immediately wide awake and have no ability to return to sleep, no matter how little sleep.
I hate that. I have absolutely no problem getting to sleep. I do love those 20 minute naps.
