Mountain Biking - good dual purpose shoes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. i want to get some shoes that are good for biking with platform pedals, as well as for hiking.
is there anything that does both well?

I can tell you that most Sketchers shoes SUCK :) I have had two pairs of sketches shoes and the soles are WAY to thick for riding they feel like you have a 1" layer of slime on the pedals. verry odd feeling. I cn't be much more help than that, I use SPD's now.
I can't answer for hiking, per se, but for walking and riding, SixSixOne Launch shoes are pretty good. The midsole is not quite as pedalling-stiff as the Dually, so it will flex for walking a bit more. You can get it in the new 'Taki' sole version too. Most platform pedal soles don't have a lot of hiking-shoe tread, though. Anyone else?

If you want to ride platforms and hike with the same shoe.. I recomend more of a hiking type shoe with a stiff sole with a tread design that looks like it will work with your pedals. A stiff sole transfers the power to the pedals more efficiently than a flimsy one.
Its easy to find a shoe that performs great, most skate shoe versions are excellent. To find a pair that can stand-up to the harsh environment of biking is hard. So for average riding expect to replace every 6 months. I was in the market for new biking shoes last month and just got a new pair. I purchased a set of NIKE lowtop BBALL shoes from Footlocker, only $49.99. They are flat gripped and look awsome! If there's one thing I have to say about them, they're the best MTB shoes I ve had. A person wouldn't think BBall shoes would be suited for riding, but I could tell by looking at these things they would be killer. They are the new style NIKE Basket Ball version that is a completely new style for 2006. They are much better than any skate's I ve used. You can get them at Foot Locker. Oh and make sure you spray your shoes every 2 months if getting them wet happens often.
