After following this forum for several months I finally started commuting to work this morning. The weather has been horrible in Wisconsin this spring. This is the first day in a month where rain has not been forecast in the Milwaukee area.

I have been scouting out a route for several weeks in my car. The commute is rather long, 21 miles each way, and most of the miles are through city streets. But the ride was great this morning. The 21 miles took an hour and a half. Not too bad with all of the traffic and stop lights. Besides it takes a half hour to get to work in my car anyway so the round trip will only add another two hours total. I would spend this much time on my bike riding after work anyway. The sunrise was fabulous this morning and only one impatient driver yelled at me behind his closed window.

I'm going fishing Canada in about a week and a friend of mine suggested we take our mountain bikes up with us and "commute" to different lakes in the area via old logging roads that are not passable by car anymore. This will open up many new areas to us and get us away form what little lake traffic there is in the area.

One of the best parts about this commute to work is being able to look at my bike all day leaning against the wall in my office and knowing I get to ride home at the end of the day.

Thanks to everyone for the motivation to get started!:) :D :)

Sounds like you've solved the common problem of the stressful,
boring commute most people endure day after day.

Only my 14 mile commute takes me anywhere from 35 to 50 minutes (sometimes more) by car. By bike it's about 60 minutes, give or take. I never thought I'd be looking forward to the trip home, or to work, for that matter!
