Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Posting a "linked" photo (i.e. thumbnail or other)?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have tried this using HTML/XHTML, but it doesn't work. However, I've noticed some posts with photos where the photos are thumbnails that are linked externally to larger views of the photo. I looked thru the sticky on posting photos ... but no info on how this is accomplished compared to adding a photo the standard two ways (i.e. attachment vs. using img tag).

You mean taking the URL for the picture and making it into an actual picture when you post?

For example I take this URL: http://www.roadcycling.com/artman/uploads/cervelo-p3-carbon_001.jpg

Then I pressed the little button that has the mountain and the "sun" and I inserted the link above, pressed OK and it gave me this

is that what you are looking for?

Thanks hi565. No, I'm looking for the ability, just like you would if you were creating a webpage, to be able to insert an object that has a link behind it when clicked takes you to a new window to the hyperlink.

For this context, I am wanting to insert an actual photo/thumbnail that is linked to a larger photo when clicked.

Here is just a couple example of a post on BF that has something like I am referring to:

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=201243&highlight=qs2

-or-

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=203507

-or-

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=202585

I am a web guy, so this isn't hard for me to understand. I am simply not sure what the correct method is to use on this specific forum. Thanks a ton! :)

ohhhhhh

Instead of using the quick reply function use the reply button that is on every post, and then scroll down the page and you will see a button for "Manage attachments" Press that and go through your Computer and pick the pictures or you can also attach the URL of a picture...

This is the product...

Yeah, I'd sure hate to ride one of those Colnago's with such a nice paint job! ;)

Did that answer your question btw?

Oh, yes, sorry ... that did answer my question. It appears the only way to create a linked image is via the manage attachments feature. And, that feature only allows <100kb files to be used. Thanks for the info!

Might this also be what you're looking for?

[/URL]

Here's how I did it:

Click the button and either paste or type in the URL of the thumbnail image you've already created. (I used [URL="http://www.flickr.com"]Flickr's (http://static.flickr.com/53/167649266_e2a70ca746_o.jpg) Thumbnail feature.) Click the OK button.

Highlight the line of code that was created.

Click the button and either paste or type in the URL for the larger image to which you want to link. Click the OK button.

Click the Submit button.
