Bicycle Mechanics - Question about Dura Ace Bar End Shifters...

I just recieved the Dura Ace 9 speed bar end shifters I bought for my TT bike build. They are the B77 model. I have a brand new, never used Ultegra 6500 rear deraillier. But when scanning through the paperwork that Shimano provides with the bar end shifters, it says they can only be used with Dura Ace 7700 rear derailliers. ??? What gives here? I've used Ultegra RD's with Dura Ace STI brifters...any idea why they say this for the bar end shifters? Do I need to go out and spend more money on a Dura Ace rear derailllier now?

They should work. I'm using these 9-speed DA bar end shifters on my tour bike with an XT derailleur. Indexes perfectly...

This has come up before. The instruction manual is incorrect. They can be used with all Shimano SIS rear derailers *except* Dura-ace 7400 series. Actually, they can still be used with the 7400 series but they will shift 8-speed spacing with that model. In fact, there is probably a sticker on the shifter that says this.

I happen to use them with a 7700 RD but all 9-speed tri-bikes that have bar-ends on the aero bars use the SL-BS77 whether they use Tiagra, 105, Ultegra, or Dura-ace derailers.

As a matter of fact, I'm using exactly that--B77 Dura-Ace 9spd barend in conjunction with a 6500 Ultegra on the rear--on my daily rider. If you haven't found out already, the screw on the front shifter lever are prone to vibrating loose if not torqued down properly--ask me how I know. *sigh*

This is a new bike build, so I haven't used them yet, as I am patiently waiting for the last few parts to arrive. But it's good to know you are using the same RD as I have with these shifters. I'll keep an eye on the screws, but they are going on a TT bike, so I won;t be riding it every day. Maybe once or twice a week at best. Good to know though.;)
