I should have paid attention to the thread "what do you carry on your tandem."
On Monday when we stopped at our favorite deli for lunch in Harrison, Idaho I discovered that I'd left my wallet back at the car ... no money, no cards, nothing to buy lunch ... and the stoker was hungry.
In my haste to get in the saddle and get down the trail I had left the little baggy with all of our ID and money in the car back at the trail head.
I remembered the spare tire, two tubes, patch kit, spare link, spoke repair kit, plastic gloves and tool kit plus the pump ... but no money.
There was a small amount of trail mix available but that doesn't really cut it when the stoker had been looking forward to fresh pumpernickle and turkey.
Fortunately, the owner of the deli had mercy on us and gave us our sandwich with the promise that we would pay her next time. She said she recognized us from the numerous other times we have eaten there and figured that we were good for it.
I now have a $20 bill folded up in the underseat bag with all the other emergency stuff. Live and learn!
PS - Advertisement - If you're ever riding the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes through Harrison,Idaho we heartily recommend the little deli inside the general store ... good sandwiches and they are kind to cyclists, even the foolish ones!
