Hi,
Was wondering if any one has ever climbed Mt. Evans? If so, how long did it take ,and was it low traffic. On a scale of 1 to10, 10 being the most difficult, how do you rate it and what kind of rider are you?

Hi,
I plan to go to the Denver area in June and was wondering if someone might throw some ride ideas my way. I rode 2500 miles last year and I am fairly fit. Jimmie320

I rode up Mt. Evans, but it was about 10 years ago. Don't remember much of the details. I remember that the road was paved, but it sucked - lots of patched areas, uneven pavement (but that was 10 years ago). It hailed on me briefly (and it was in June). Spent most of the day in the granny ring...
I spent two weeks in Colorado riding this past summer. I did not do Mt Evans on Bike I did drive it though. It has to be a 10 the altitude change alone is enough to rate that. There is an annual race up Mt Evans and some club rides out of Denver that regularly do it. Check google under colorado bicycle clubs. I think it takes from 4 to 8+ hours. Other good areas are Summit county and Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, and Colorado Springs. Again look on the net there is tons of biking in Colorado. If are a low lander like me, take care to acclimate, the altitude will get you.

Hi!!
I live in the Denver area.
It would help some to know what kind of biking you are looking for.
There are so many options.
1. There are 100's of miles of dedicated bike paths in the metro area if that is your interest. These are cement, generally 10 feet wide paths that almost completely avoid any street intersections, and generally follow stream and river beds (if we ever get any more rain or snow). By selectively choosing your paths, you can avoid ped and walkers pretty much.
2. If bike paths are not your bag, there is lots of low level on-road biking available.
3. There are numerous mountain bike paths, some easy, some more difficult. Summit county has many, and they are all spectacular. One challenging ride would be to go from Frisco, Copper Mountai, Vail Pass, Vail and out to Edwards and back. ABout 100 miles if you do the whole thing, or just stop in Vail and return - about 50 miles. Again, spectacular scenery, elevation from 8,500 to 10,600 feet.
4. There are numerous sponsored rides - "Ride the Rockies" and "Bicycle Tour of Colorado" are both week-long rides going over about 7 mountain passes each. MS 150, Courage Classic to name a few.
5. There are a number of sponsored Centuries - both low level and mountain types.
6. There are the spectacular "triple-by-pass" Three mountain passes and about 127 miles in one day and the Denver-Aspen classic - about 200 miles non-stop.
7. There are many bike clubs that have regular training rides - from easy to extremely challenging.
If you would like more info about any or all of the above, let me know and I will send you some links.
Have fun.
