:D Ok guys, I just purchased a new 10 speed Ultegra equipped bike (double) yesterday. The LBS set it up and adjusted everything. Here is my question:

When I am on the largest chainring on the front, and the 3rd gear on the rear (3rd up from the smallest gear), the chain just begins to rub on the front derailleur. Correct me if i'm wrong, but I shouldn't be getting any rubbing with this combination, right?

Is this just an issue of turning one of the adjusting screws to move the deraillleur a little more outboard? (towards the right side pedal)? I believe this is setup incorrectly from the LBS, because the Shimano pamphlet says that there should be 0-.5mm of clearance between the inner frame of the FD and then chain when the smallest front chainring is in use. Mine has about 3 mm, which I believe is probably why my FD is rubbing.

Hopefully this makes sense :D Just looking for a little reassurance before I start turning screws.

You certainly need to readjust the cable tension to get the outer cage to clear the chain. It should clear even in the smallest cog. You may have to adjust the outer limit screw to get the needed travel.

One other possibility is that the cable wasn't installed properly on the fd. The cable should run outside of the little tab next to the fixing bolt. If it runs between the tab and the bolt, the derailleur travel will not be correct. (Ask me how I know this. :))

Take it back to the LBS and have them do it right. They certainly should know better.

This FD is certainly not adjusted properly. The shop should definitely do it for free, but it would be good for you to look at these instructions and familiarize yourself with how to adjust a front derailleur: http://parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=75
If you follow the instructions in order, you'll have a perfectly adjusted FD.
