Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I am going to get a new pair of speedplay pedals. But dont know which one to get. The x/2 or the x/3. Is there a real different? I want to start racing. Which one would you choose?

I use speedplay because they save my knees. Plus they are light and cool looking. But I may try those pedals for my mountain bike.

take a look at the seedplay zero's.
I have the X/2'S (2 pair = a pair of X/1'S) and love'em! Previous pedal was Time. The float at first was a little extreme, (As people say 'like your on ice cubes') but now it's second nature... Get what your wallet will bear. I personally wouldn't pay the extra money for the Zeros though... ;)
If you are going to race, get the X2 model. The X3, while good, is meant more for recreational riders who don't necessarily stress their equipment like racers. The X2 is more sturdy and will last longer.

I have only had the X/2's, have two pairs of them and love them. I have no complaints and would surely buy them again. I think the X/1's are too expensive, and the X/2's seem like the value model. I get the X/2's only about 25 dollars over the X/3's though so that tends to help sway the decision:)

the x-3s are on sale at nashbar for pretty cheap, like $80 or $90. They aren't as light as the x-2s or the x-1s, but they are the same basic design, with the only difference being inthe weight.

I bought my Speedplays way back in '95 or '96 before they had the X/1 vs. X/2 vs. X/3 designations, but they are the same pedal as the X/2. I think I've proven their durability by now. I also switched from Time pedals. I think the switch saved my knee.
