Mountain Biking - Anyone got I.C.E hate in them?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Am I alone here? I feel this burning fury every time I see a dirt bike or four wheeler buzzing around. I just wanna destroy the thing and tell the person to get a friggen bike, because it takes a lot less skill to ride one of those(unless you do motocross, that's not so bad) than a mountain bike, and it's only a speed pleasure...I HATE IT. I HATE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES!!!

I'm the same way with skateboards. I do own one, but my god, what an inefficient way to travel. Tricks and such are cool, but just to get places?

Yeah, but to each his own. Just think how mad you get when people slam bicycles for whatever reason. I try to live and let live when it comes to hobbies and pasttimes. After all, I hate horses, but had to buy my little girl one this week. She has been showing them for 2 years, and has been winning, so now she has her own. Not my thing, but definately hers.
You think its THAT easy to ride a MC off-road? Try it!
I've done both and they both need a very fine set of skills to be good at them.

I've always loved cars so to me the internal combustion engine is a thing of beauty. Can't say that I care for dirt bikes though.

I like speed bikes :P
Making the point that it takes less skill to ride a motorcycle/quad (this is wrong of course) is no reason to hate something that someone else does. Then you go on to say that its just "speed pleasure"... well what about down hill mtn bikers, or maybe freeriders/dirt jumpers just like "adrenaline pleasure".. after all, it doesn't take any skill to ride your bike off a 15' drop. Chill out.

Go try it, and please get a vid.
Also, dirtbiking in trails isnt as easy as it looks, same with quading. Even more so with my new beauty a damned Honda big red TRIKE!
Am I alone here? I feel this burning fury every time I see a dirt bike or four wheeler buzzing around. I HATE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES!!! How truly sad. That is a lot of anger to carry around. But I'm an incurable motorhead. I grew up on dirt bikes and still wish I could race flattrack again someday. Sometimes when I tell other mtn bikers that downhilling is the most fun you can have on two wheels without an engine, they look at me funny. They don't get it. I guess you don't either, Jason and I'm sorry. You are missing something that is maybe not better, but just as fun in a different way.
BTW, mcoine, love the roadracing tail on your solo seat! Ahh clip-on bars and a four-into-one. I'm more of a two-stroke fan, but ya gotta love a sweet cafe bike like that!

My favorite is when I get to my favorite single track downhill yesterday only to find it has been ruined by illegal ATV use.

Elitists in any form are just ********. AS long as it's done responsibly (in regards to safety of others and the environment) I say go for it.

The only thing I hate about dirt bikes is how I see the soil ripped to shreds on the trails I sometimes ride, especially going uphill. It's a combo between them tearing the trails to pieces and the ease it was for them to go up this incline that is just freaking killing me.

I've tried Dirt bikes and Quads, I can't stand them.
Why do you care? What difference does it make to you?

DMinor I appreciate your post. I found myself filled with rage by the ignorance of the original post and reading your comments helped me put things in perspective. There's no sense to be found in his post and there's no sense in e becoming just as over-the-top because of someones opinion.
The trail damage people above mention mirrors the complaints of hikers about mountain bikes. Those same opinions that most mountain bikers find foolish.
Riding a motorized dirt bike thru trails is definitely NOT what I would call lower on the skill scale. Carrying much more speed and controlling a much heavier bike is anything but easier.
Different people do different things because THEY find it enjoyable. To judge someone/something based on the sole fact that YOU don't like it is exactly what it is, ignorant..

Well, I'm probably goin to live my life car free anyway :p I just can't see the fun in driving this big machine, it's loud, it ruins trails, and polutes the environment...
...maybe it's really some kind of deep inner problem reflected from childhood...
Oh my god! That was supposed to be a joke...I typed it, then thought about it...When I was 4 I burned my leg severely on a dirt bike! My older brother was driving me around (I was sitting behind him holding on) and I burnt my left leg on something...maybe this is why.
Yeah, dirtbike engines get REALLY hot, I also burned my leg but I was wearing boots and thick pants so it wasn't as nearly traumatizng as your experience lol, I was a lot older too though...
I kinda miss dirt bikes... I really enjoyed riding them but I guess I enjoy mountain bikes a lot more.

There is already too much hate in this world. Why hate people having fun. I really am lucky to live in an area with designated spots for the "other" sports. I never encounter or feel the anger most people seem to have

to quote Rodney King, "can't we all just get along"...............except for those freaking freeriders!
Jason222, I kind of know what you mean. Everybody and their brother dirtbikes where I live, and all I see are a bunch of fat guys thinking they are badasses because they fortunately have an engine to haul their fat selves around. I had a guy the other day try to tell me that dirtbiking was much more physical excersise than MTB.
I asked him if you rode the same 50 mile stretch of trail on a DB or a MTB, which is going to be more exercise? He was quiet.
While we're on the subject, here is my street bike!
awesome motorcycle!
