So, I got up today, planning on doing a big biking day, and doing a lot of filming(which I never get to do). My last ride was 2 days ago, and my bike was still sitting dirty, so I decided I was going to do a quick cleanup and tuneup. I flip the bike over, and there it is. I almost cried. :o

Oh... that's not cool. Oh well, zip ties and duct tape!

It's really too bad too, I was loving the geometry of it. I'm guessing it snapped when I did some stair gaps last ride...

I started stripping it...

this (http://www.hbtrials.com/adamant_a2.html) is most likely the next frame I'll get.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that, I like Bruiser frames too. :( Talk about bad luck, a fork & frame in very little time.
You will have to get one of those frames with solid tubes next time! BTW, whats with the hacksaw?

Don't tell me. You busted up your $920 bike. That's messed up. You should've spent $1000.
Must've been those dang hollow tubes....
Just kidding....
Luckily you weren't on it when the whole thing split in half and threw you. Someone was watching over you. :o

You know that Trek has a lifetime warranty on that frame right? You may as well give it a shot.
And also keep in mind, that Adamant A2 is going to be very hard to control without any saddle. You'd be surprised how much you use your saddle to control the bike.

BTW, whats with the hacksaw?
The hacksaw was for breaking the chain :p . I broke my actual chain breaker, so that was the easiest thing to use. No big loss, the chain was pretty worn out anyway.
I might take the thing to my Trek Dealer, and see if trek will warrentee it. Probably not, but I'll try. This isn't the first time I've seen a bruiser break in that place either, my buddy corey has one of the old bruiser's and he snapped his in the exact same place. He put his frame up on his wall as a decoration(and reminder of good times), and that's probably what I'll do too.

that sucks
sorry to hear that dude.
Don't Trek frames have a lifetime warranty? And if so, they should cover your riding style with the bruiser, I mean after all who wouldn't abuse a Trek Bruiser.
Yeah, I would ask Trek for a replacement frame.

That sucks man.
But i wonder, is that frame really meant to endure trials stuff?

I'm not a hardcore trials rider, I just know how to pedal kick :p. I don't ride that hard either. I definately don't dirt jump, I just mostly do street(which is a lot less strain on a frame then dirt jumping and freeride). I just called the trek dealer, they're gunna call me back when the owner has a chance.

i seem to remember an arguement between gastro (i think) and expatriate on the mtb forums about the strength of solid tubes vs. hollow tubes...
it had my favorite quote on bikeforums, gastro to expatriate "you're making up physics again"
Where is expat anyway?
Havent heard from him since he got back to the states.

I remember that arguement. It was about a stem wasn't it?
i hope my frame isn't next.

It's not the first bruiser I've seen snap there. I think it's a weak-point in the frame. Pinkbike has a few pics of other people that have had them snap there as well.
looks like your gunna have to change your sig... :(

But damn that sucks, good luck with a new frame.

Frame warranty - Cracked at a weld, meaning it was either a weak weld, or something, but it doesn't seem like you really "abused" it. Warranty, if you should want to save money!!

I go tomorrow to take it to the bike shop. Should I take everything off? I don't have any way of getting the bottom bracket out, is this a problem?

As long as you've got the frame stripped of everything else I don't think it should be a problem as your LBS can most likely take the BB out in a short amount of time.
Good luck. ;)

Sorry to hear that. Do you know when it happened? I can't see it cracking overnight under no strain. Did it snap when you flipped it or is there a chance you were riding on it for a bit?
I know what it feels like, I've been there. *Trippy LSD insinuated flashback*
Couple years ago when I was a wee lad I was riding to school on my bike [of course] after a day of doing some small-medium sized BMX jumps at Calabazas (check some of the MSDHW films, its a cool place) and low and behold, I'm riding along the street and *SNAP*.
I look down just before I topple over and there it is. My stancion tube cracked clear across.
So I fell down into some rocks (ouchies), walked home, and my dad drove me to school. :(
But anyways, we got a new fork under warranty and all was good.
Speaking of forks, does that happen to be the Marzocchi Z1? I recently got the Z1 FR 3, and I was wondering if you could tell me how it ran? I've got about a week to wait till parts come in (new fork = new 20mm hub = new rim and spokes... that the bike shop doesn't have) till I can get the thing installed, but I heard it's badass.
Care to comment?
Also, looking at the new frame, where's your rear disc brake gonna go? Are you going to ditch it? :(
Sorry to see the frame. :( Bikes do face a lot of stress. The BMX builders figured out this issue a long time ago... gussets... :)

That really looks like a issue with the weld. I had a weld problem with a Haro swingarm and the sent a new one, no questions at all. I bet they replace it.

I called Mikes bike shop today(they carry Trek) and they said they'd get my a new frame no problem. 1 catch, I'd have to pay shipping :p. I'm pretty happy right now, but I have to get the cash for shipping :p.
Ah, the Z1 FR 3 is the sweetest fork ever. I love mine, too bad it snapped though. What frame are you putting it on? What's your weight? I had to get a new front wheel as well, so I got my Bombshell Fatboy for 90 bucks on ebay.
Edit: My Z1 snapped at the brake mounts, it was probably my fault though. I was doing nosepicks on the bike, and I was getting pretty good at it. I could go around for about 220 degrees or so near the end of it's life. It snapped when I tried to do that at school, and it scared the **** right outta me.

Only dirt frames for BMX bikes have gussets, street frames dont. The DK in my sig is a dirt frame and it has a large gusset on the headtube, this on the other hand is a street frame and doesnt have much gussetting.

Now that that's all settled, how do you like those 50/50's? (didn't want to ask you while you were heated about your frame :) )I just ordered some XX's from beyondbikes.com on sale for $80 (http://www.beyondbikes.com/bb/ItemMatrix.asp?GroupCode=CM%2DPED%2D5050XX&MatrixType=1). I got the XX's because of the sealed bearings and the set of longer pins.

They're a great pedal, but I find that they don't have enough grip sometimes. But I'm picky, so I put a few more pins in it and it's great.
I only noticed the lack of grip when I tried to do tricks and pedal kick, so I put more pins on my pedal kick foot (the foot that most often fell off).

Jason, I'm putting it on the K2 Attack i got last christmas, and I weigh 120-130 lbs. I don't remember what the new spokes are called, but I'm getting a Sun Rhynolite rim.
When you say the brake mounts, you mean the two little "humps" where the brake screw in right? And not the section of the fork where those mounts are.
Also, about pedals not having enough grip. I just got tired of it, so I went clipless :D
If I know I'm going to need to take my feet out on the trail or doing a jump, I just unclip and put the pedal on the middle of my foot.
I wish my bruiser frame was cromo. That would be narly.
Thats "gnarly"
