General Cycling Discussion - Turn off CatEye Enduro 8 computer?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Can anyone who uses the CatEye Enduro 8 computer tell me if they turn the computer off after they ride, or if they just let it turn itself off via the one-hour timeout? I just want to make sure I'm getting the maximum life out of the battery in it.
I read through the instructions and can't find a way to manually turn it off, so I'm thinking that the timeout feature is the only way to turn it off.
Thanks in advance.

I don't have the Enduro 8 but I do have an old Enduro. The screen is on all the time and the batteries last for years. LCD doesn't draw that much current. I'd not worry about it.

You're kidding right? A battery costs $2.99 or less.
Agree. Mine is the Cateye with wire transmitted cadence counter. The instructions actually do tell you how to turn it off, but I haven't bothered. If you'd like, I'll dig them out tonight. Maybe they will apply to your model - or not.
I do wonder if the odometer readings go away when you change batteries, but again, no big deal if they do.

Yes, but you can set the odometer to whatever you want while you're in the setup mode. Just set it back to whatever it used to say.

I conserve whenever I can.
go to the cateye website, you can download the PDF version of the manual to see if there is a way to turn it off. I don't know of one personally. After a while, it goes to the 'clock' display automatically.

3 years and counting on my Cateye battery life, never manually turned it off...
Thanks, dayve. Glad I saved the manuel. All I have to do now, is read it.

I have 3 of em, and have always let it auto shutoff to the default incorrect clock time
Do you turn your digital wristwatch off when you're not using it? A cateye computer uses about the same amount of power as a watch. It'll run for years.

+1 leave it on.
Mine's set correctly, but not to daylight time, Hobartlemagne. Of all the calibration and installation steps, setting the clock was the least intuitive - to say the least.
Thanks everyone. I didn't realize the battery lasted so long, that's good news and makes turning it off a non-issue.

I never use the clock, so I never bothered correcting it. Changing from KPH to MPH was the real challenge.
Maybe I should say- those cryptic instructions in every world language are hard to navigate through
I looked at the instructions online. I couldn't find any way to turn it off.
Of course, you now know the savings is virtually meaningless anyway.

The clock function is probably the worst part of an otherwise great bicycle computer. Mine never keeps the proper time. I have a watch for that;)

I have an Enduro 8 and so far it keeps perfect time and was easy to setup for me, but then I'm kind of a tech-no guy any way:D .
