Road Cycling - lost my senses on trainer

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i was on the trainer in the basement and was watching a tape of a race. i was climbing when they were climbing...attacking when they were attacking...etc...
i got past this particularly tough part, took a swig of water from the bottle...it was empty.... and i chucked it to the side like the pro's do. i always wanted to do that....

Jeff
p.s. i've always wanted to throw my bottle too... but I'm kinda cheap, and would feel bad after chucking it ont he road.. I'd have to go back and pick it up later ;-)
I've lost bottles, does that count?

I've had a bottle or two jettison on a rough trail never to be seen again.
Last year, on an organized ride, I saw a guy who had a water bottle that matched my jersey. I thought that was kind of cool. I asked him where he got it.
"I found it," he said.
I wonder if it was one of yours, Marty.
Personally, I would no more drink from a used bottle I had found beside the trail than I would chew used gum I found under a theater seat.

A friend of mine had a bottle fall out from the cage on a particually difficult climb in some semi mountains (big hills :p) anyhow the bottle rolled to the bottom of the hill, where he went to recover it and climbed the hill a second time... :D

I'm embarassed to say I was in the trainer last night in the middle of intervals and almost spit in my living room. I was working harder than I have before and I'd do it on the road it just felt natural. I glanced at the carpet and realized what I was going to do. UUUCCCKKKK!
Sure, throwing the water bottle feels good. But, what about getting a water bottle in the feed zone? I think that one feels a even better. :)
I'm having trouble with my domestiques: the dog keeps putting tooth holes in the water bottles and my wife won't even get out of bed before 6 to come downstairs and deliver the water.

If i were in a trainer and happen to spit while I am on it, god knows what My better half will do to me:crash: :crash: she will probably "ban" the roller in the living room for good

I was standing next to a guy and his little daughter at the Saturn Cycling Classic last summer...as the leaders went by one tossed a bottle and the girl picked it up and clearly was thinking about having a swig. The dad said, in a stern and sincere tone, "We don't drink from pro rider's bottles honey. There's no telling what's in it."
I don't think that he meant that she might get "cooties."

now that we've talked about chucking water bottles, spitting (almost done that), etc. i've got a supreme challenge for everyone.
i read an interview with Christian VandeVelde in Pro Cycling Mag. where when he was with USPS and raced with Lance, on the 'less spectatored' part of the course it was his job to steady Lance's bike (@25mph) so Lance could pee. (AT 25MPH!!)
well, i have my trusty trainer to steady me.....

LMAO... you go man!
I think I'll be in the same place soon... I believe I have tendonitis in my shoulder (waiting for doc to verify) so looks like i'm going to have my right arm in a sling for about 3 or 4 weeks. Planning on setting up a trainer with my road bike and just ordered a bunch of bike racing DVD's (Tour de France, etc). I wonder if I can scare the fur off my cat by tossing my water bottle like that... mmm... heh
