Hi everyone,
Could anyone give some advice to a beginer looking to get into mountain biking?
What types of bikes should I consider? I used to ride a bike when I was a kid, but never realy got into the sport. I have tried to research this but there's too much info out there!!!! Appreciate any feedback.

go to a local bike shop (not walmart, academy, kmart) and talk to them about what would be good for you. Once you have done that, you will be able to come back and have a good starting point to research. The LBS will be able to give you quite a bit of direction and let you demo different bikes. Find something that you think works and look up what other people have to say about durability, etc.

Good luck man, and hope you have fun

xc, dj, 4x, dh??
These terms probably mean nothing to him.

XC= cross country riding
DJ= Dirt jumping
4x= dirt jumping/ street/ racing
DH=Downhill (not down roads, down steep mountains usually, has a lot of huge jumps and drops anywhere from 4-20~ feet.)
