I found these WWII vintage leather panniers today for $20. Leather needs some reviving, but they fit the back rack pretty well.

Nice.

They look very similar to the bags made by Brooks.

Holy smoke, those are nice bags. The retro-grouch crowd would easily pay twice that amount for vintage stuff like that.

The more I look at these, the more I think they were made for the back of an Army mule. But my Rat will do in a pinch :D

I wonder what army secrets they held?

I've found markings on them which seem to indicate they were made for Swiss students to use. On a bike or motorcycle, I don't know.

Those are nice.

Get yourself some liquid glycerine saddle soap (there used to be some spray stuff in a bottle called "Leather New", I think) and work those puppies new. The liquid glycerine stuff won't darken the leather like neatsfoot oil will, plus neatsfoot oil can tend to rot the stitching out.

I have a pair of really old ones too. I've got no idea what to do with it except continue looking for an old school english 3 speed to attach them to the back. Until them, they remain packed away...
