I'm trying to weld disk brake tabs onto some of my older bikes, but novacycles doesn't sell their alignment tool anymore. The only other one I can find is made by Anvil, buit it's pretty pricey.
Does anyone have a source for the cheaper tool, or would anyone be willing to rent one out to me? Thanks.

well, paid out the butt for the Anvil tool. Gonna TIG weld the Nova tab on next weeks. I'll be sure to post pics for the captivated audiences here.

I'd love to see some pics.

I would tend to want to do something like mount all the brake bits and aplly the brake so it's clamped to the disc, while in the tab is in contact with the fork, tack and then weld. Wouldn't work?

I usually weld hot, so I was afraid a rotor wouldn't have enough rigidity to keep the mount/frame from warping as the weld puddle cooled. The anvil piece is probably worth it in peace of mind. That biatch is beefy!

Now, you wouldn't want to rent that out for a week would you? Help offset the cost of the jig. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm only doing a couple of frames a year, and $100 is a lot to layout for one jig.

Anyway, I'm in Maine if you were interested in renting it to me. PM me for my email address.

If there is a ton of welding stress even if the the jig resists it the tab is still bending when it comes out.
