Had a great brick workout this morning. Well, other than missing a turn and riding by myself for most of it. But I felt strong and fast. I was tired but not wiped out when I got home. So, as I was showering, I looked at my razor and thought: Well... what the hell!

And I shaved 'em.

A couple of thoughts: I was surprised how untanned my legs look without hair. I was surprised how veiny my legs are. I was surprised how much it hurt my back to bend over for that long. And I was surprised about how UN-surprised Mrs. Caloso was: "I wondered when you were finally going to give into peer pressure and shave!"

But, dang if they aren't sexy!

Can Mrs C keep her hands off 'em though? My Mrs never could... :)

yikes, I don't even wanna imagine the in-grown count I personally would have if I took a razor to my legs :( I hope yours isn't too high

Okay. After a few days, it doesn't feel so weird. And I definitely feel faster. Yes, I know that there's probably very little aerodynamic improvement, but it's psychological.

I caved in this weekend too. After a couple years of joking...some at me, some from me...I finally did it. And I find I like it. Legs certainly look better, I guess I never knew they looked as good as they do. I used a pair of clippers first to cut it down to a stub then got out the razor. It did take a while and it feels odd to wear pants but I do like it. Can't wait to hear it from my running buddies.

dang if they aren't sexy!

and you guys are just figuring this out??? ;)

Yeah, I would just shave them for the sexiness factor, if nothing else! :)

caloso

Yep. It took about a week for it to stop feeling weird when I wear pants. Now it feels much more natural. And they're tanning nicely.

Here they are, in all their smooth glory:

Wooot woooo! Very nice. Think you'll ever go back to your hirsute ways?

caloso

No way! Since shaving I've won a prime in a crit and a top-five finish in my age group in a tri! It's gotta be the smooth legs that have given me the edge...

I waxed when I did it. In a fit of self hatred and stupidity I walked into the place and said "Take it all!!!!". I was quickly paired with an angry looking little Puerto Rican woman who had apparently gone through a horrible break-up or wrecked her new Lexus the night before. I was on the table for two 2.5 hour stretches with a half hour break. It was excrutiating and nobody told me that when you are finished you have to oil up to get the excess wax off. So there I am in the shower at home covered in olive oil and finding it hard to feel sexy. Keep in mind at this point i'm bright red, covered in cooking oil, and bleeding from a few places where, i'm glad to say, the skin healed quite nicely.

The upshot.....it was a month before the hair dared come back. My follicles were frightened. Also all the synthetic clothing (warm-up pants, etc.) no longer created static on my leg hair. After a day or two I was feeling pretty good. Plus an added bonus. Such trauma was caused in a few areas that the hair will most likely never come back.

I do recommend this.....however;

1. Do it all at one time. Take the next two days to recover. Invest in cooling lotions with cucumber. (Don't use your wifes....apparently she spent alot of money on that stuff.)

2. Get to know the one who waxes you before you commit.....How are things going in their life. (You wouldn't let someone suffering from depression pack you parachute, right?)

3. Most waxers will let you sneak in a flask of whiskey.

CHEERS!

I tell you, after getting my back done, I could have done with a drink of that whiskey. Ouch, and ouch again. And the salon girl called me Goatboy.

Veet for backs, blades for legs. Every time!
