Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - northbrook velo & nearby shops &Tonight (6/19)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I need to pick up a set of eggbeaters for Madison practice tonight at the Ed Rudolph Northbrook Velodrome.
Is there a good place up there to pick up a pair?
performance is having a sale on the yellow candy Cs and a chromoly pair. I think they're about $60.
candy c
every used these? any reason to get these over normal eggbeaters? how much better with normal shoes?
In my experience:
eggbeaters < Candy C < Quattros
I have all three. The eggbeaters are way too flimsy (aka - too much float) for track. Your chances for clipping out are much stronger. The Candy's are better and give a more locked-in feel as well as providing for much better power transfer. The difference is quite noticeable.
I'bve been riding Quattros (the road pedal with a Sidi Dominators - MTB shoe) and they provide the best power transfer, a very stable platform and a very locked in feeling (they're the hardest to get out of from all three). If you're serious about getting a very good pedal for road, long distance, power transfer and for riding at the track, get the Quattros. The downside is that I've seen very few stores carry them in the city at least. Out there, there's a performance somewhere I believe, a bike shop close to the Metra (small though) and George Garner is close by too, which I've never been to but might be your best bet.
However, I'm sure one of the roadie shops would probably have the Quattros in the city -- perhaps Higher Gear on Fullerton or Cycle Smithy.
+1. If you can get quattros go for it. I took advantage of Performance's lax return policy and tried all three. I preferred the eggbeaters on the road, but the candy cs and the quattros held up well on the track.
