I was on the Millenium Trail from Carrying Place to Picton with last weekend. I am reporting that much of the trail is impassable for many bicycles. I did however find the portion from Bloomfield to Picton to be passable for a tandem.
The problem it seems are the ATVs. They are allowed on the trail and the County has dumped large amounts of coarse gravel on the trail. Not a problem for ATVs; a huge problem for bikes.
It's like that everywhere with these rail trails etc... I was inspired to go to New Brunswick last year by a report I read about biking on the Trans Can trail. The ATVs had totally chewed much of the NB section up, and no raodwork to repair it was in evidence. I cant say I mind that much, the road is generally better there anyway, except fpr the dogs, and the ATVs really use the trail while the number of cyclist is very low, and that's regardless of the condition. Afterall the ATVs aren't allowed on either the road or the trail but I saw them out getting food to old residents and so forth. Anyway it's a pitty these tracks suck so bad for bikes. I enjoyed my ride to Bloomfield on the road, and Would like to do that trek again this year.
